What should things be like on prednisone?

Hi everyone. So I was in the ER last weekend for really bad diaherrea, a lot of blood and pain. I've been taken off all my meds and put on 40 mg of pred for now. I feel much better and have gone from 10-15 runny/bloody stools (sorry for the visual) to like 2 solid a day. Here's the thing, I'm still having some stomach pain (pretty mild) and blood in my stool. It's less than it was but the sides of my stool have like streaks of bright red on it. Shouldn't prednisone be getting rid of all of the blood? Will it take longer (I've only been on it 4 days)? Does prednisone actually heal this disease or am I masking the symptoms?

Prednisone will dampen down the inflammation in most cases but a lot of people's symptoms start to return as they taper because the lower dose of pred isn't enough to keep the inflammation at bay.

It can take some time to see full results on pred but full results may not eliminate all of your symptoms, pred relieved none of my son's symptoms.

Usually while you are tapering they will start you on a maintenance med so it can build up and take over once the taper of pred is finished. Otherwise the symptoms can quickly return after the pred taper.

Four days isn't too terribly long so it may take a little more time to relieve all of the pain and blood. Or it could be that the blood is from a small fissure?

Hope all the best for you.
