I woke up this morning and my surgery site was leaking puss... It was like there was a pouch of puss that built up around the scar and it just popped this morning. It has been red and a little bit tender the past few days but I wrote it off as part of the recovery process. Now that it's leaking puss I'm almost certain that it's infected. There's about half an inch on each side of the incision site that's red and a little bit puffed up and it's tender to the touch and hurts like crazy all the time.

My question is, what should I do if it's infected? Should I go into the doctor? And if so, what is the doctor going to do? I absolutely HAVE TO be ready to go back to school in 5 days... Is this going to jeopardize that goal?

Definitely go and see the doctor, From your description it doesn't sound like...what if I have an infection...and more like you do have an infection.

If you have a discharge they may swab it but either way you will probably be started on antibiotics. If the infection is sensitive to the antibiotics you should see an improvement after about 48 hours.

Good luck!

As DustyKat says, here is definitely an infection there and you need to get off to the doctor lickety-split. Hopefully you can get it fixed up in time to go back to school.

infections on operation sites are quite common, by your description i would say you have a absess that has formed, defo visit to the doctors who will prescribe antibiotics as others have said.

the antibiotics work very quickly, also say to the doc about the pain as he will be able to help with that aswell.

dont be surprised if the pouch pops out at the end as well, this happens at the last stage of getting rid of a absess.
