Whats the difference?

Can anyone tell me what the difference is between a fissure and a fistula. My son is due to go into hospital in 2 weeks to have a check on his anus. he had an op 2 years back for an abscess and it was treated after with manuka, it healed great. In the last few weeks when he poos( he passes large stools) hes had blood when he wipes so i had a look and it looks like a tear coming down from his anus, it doesnt bleed all the time, just when he poos but it does look raw, we have been using the manuka honey again before he has the procedure. Good thing is he has no pain or discomfort at all. x
