I started the Imuran 2 weeks ago and it has made me so tired and so nauseous. I changed to taking it at night so I could sleep off some of the symptoms but when I wake up I feel like I got hit by a bus and want to throw up. It takes me forever to feel any relief and get things done during the day. When did everyone else start to see signs that the medicine was helping?

It took me four months before Imuran worked and I was on Prednisone until the medicine worked. I am no longer on Imuran but I am on its sister drug, 6mp, and Asacol. Have you tried any of the usual homemade remedies for nausea, like flat ginger ale and/or saltine crackers?

It's been a while since I started Imuran, I don't recall exactly how long it took to kick in but it I was taking a low dose of pred at the same time. The general consensus on here is that it takes a few months (3-4??). Never had the nausea with the Imuran, just had it for a day or so after I started the 5-ASA.

Blessedwith four, maybe you should call your doctor. If you have been on Imuran for six months and see no improvement, perhaps you need to try a different medication, especially if you are in pain.

Four to five months and Im still on a low dose of Pred although Im now weaning off that. I had a colonoscopy yesterday and it was the first one Ive had which has shown no active Crohns which must be down to the Aza as I still had i flammation and ulceration even on high dose steroids. The Aza made me feel tired and sick/flu like for about four/five weeks when I first started taking it so hang in there it does go away eventually. Azathioprine is very slow acting drug and I have read on crohns and colitis UK that it can even take up to six months to see full effect for some people...so one to be patient with unfortunatley. I hope it works for you!
