Hello,

I'm currently studying a design course at uni. I also have Crohn's disease. For my latest project i decided to use my knowledge about the disease to design a product.

Could you possibly help? If like me you spend a lot of time in the bathroom, i would like to know what things, if any, you like to have with you while you are there?

Any responses are helpful,
Thank you

smartphone, magazine, parenting book, sale flyers, newspaper, etc.

I think you can deduce that I like to read in the bathroom. :)

One thing that would be fantastic would be something similar to an elderly/tot seat. Something with handles and reinforced back. Sometimes when it is very painful (passout painful) I like to lean back on something. Straightening my abdomen helps but that is very hard to do on the toilet. the problem is that I always have to clean the back lid before i sit down in case it turns into a bad one (sometimes you dont know until it has already started) and when I do lean back it causes the lid of my toilet bowl to clang up over the bowl and hit the wall. If I know it is going to be bad I will move the lid of the bowl ahead of time.

Does that all make sense?

I open my mail while in there. Other than that, I gaze out the window, or play Candy Crush on my I-Phone.

I have to spend a lot of time in there and don't have good control of my body temperature, so in Winter I take in a hot water bottle (which is also good for easing stomach pain, holding it to my stomach relaxes the muscles and helps with cramping), and in summer I take ice packs.

A product I'd like to see invented for use in the bathroom? I am a stickler for hygiene so I'd like some kind of cleaning product that can be used on anything. I wash my hands with soap before leaving the bathroom every time, so I'd like to be able to wash anything else I take into there too. I can wash my hot water bottle and my ice packs, but I never take my phone in, or a book in, because I don't want to be holding them with my germy hands since I can't wash them off afterwards. I'd like to see something like those hand gels they have around hospitals that could be used on items that you can't get wet.

If you're looking for a product to make, how about a more comfortable toilet seat? Sitting too long pinches on that nerve along the back of my leg and gives me that pins and needles feeling in my legs. Aside from that, I take my laptop computer, sometimes the newspaper or a book.

extra toilet paper ;)

A toilet that deadens farting noises rather than enhancing them

Books, heated toilet seat, and a really nice window with an awesome view would be in my dream bathroom.

Try an at home fecal transplant. It may sound gross but I bet what you are going through is gross. Check out on youtube :)

When my Crohn's was at its worst I would be stuck on the toilet when I needed to get ready for work. My solution was an extension cord for my hair dryer and I would blow dry my hair while on the throne! :)

I usually read a magazine, but when I am sick laying on the floor with a heating pad on my gut which I recently found out works for me.

Another thing I'd like is some kind of foot stool. It's much easier to go if you're in a crouching position, so I have packs of toilet paper on the floor to put my feet on as this raises your knees up so you're closer to crouching than sitting. Some kind of foot stool that you can adjust to get to just the right height for you.

Isnt that funny. I do better stretched out (see my original response). :)

ipad FTW!

Tumblr, Ebay and Rightmove are my friend!

Cup O Tea sometimes as well if I have time:ylol2:

I'm kind of a pack rat so I tend to keep a lot of worthwhile things in my tiny bathroom (what I really need is something that can make my bathroom larger!). I keep a sudoku book and a pen in the bathroom at all times - I have a small shelf above my toilet where I keep a few books handy. I also keep my old Ipod and a dock on my bathroom countertop so that I can listen to music/cover up the sounds. Scented candles and a lighter/matches are also kept in my bathrooom in case I need to cover up smells. And if I can tell I'm going to be in the bathroom awhile, I try to grab my kindle or my nintendo DS on my way to the bathroom.

I try to always grab my iPad or kobo if I know I'm going to be in there for awhile.

And I keep tellng my husband he needs to invent me a heated toilet seat. Sitting down on a toilet when it's -40C outside can get awfully chilly, no matter how often our furnace comes on.

Heated toilet seats do exist! When we went to Las Vegas last year our hotel room had 2 bathrooms and each toilet had a heated seat that even had a water function where it acted like a bidet! You. Could control the temp of the seat and which direction the water spritzed you in!:eek2:

This might sound strange but I spend a lot of time in the bathroom in the middle of the night. I'm tired, groggy and usually very cold. I sometimes sleep on the toilet for an hour or two. I take a blanket and wrap it around myself to keep me warm. It would be nice to have a fitted blanket with a 3-4ft. slot in the back and sleeves. It would keep me warm, give me access to my back side, and it would be a lot less bulky then a blanket. I'm picturing a thick bath robe worn backwards. Maybe a silly idea for most people but it would be perfect for me.

A heated toilet seat sounds amazing. What I really need is a toilet seat that doesn't make my legs fall asleep after sitting there for a half hour! That needs to be invented right now!

I usually would grab my phone before going in. Now I have a pouch so I don't spend time sitting there anymore.
