Two years ago i came off prednisone after being on it for 9 months i weight 49kg, 17years old, 158cm height before going on it after the 9 months i weighed 65kg, 18 years old, now its been two years since i came off it im going down and down in weight now 49kg and still going down, it all happened after a mini flare up in June 2012 and not eating right sometimes skipping meals.
Im ok now but still skip the odd meals
Could there be any other reasons why the weight is comming off so fast??

I see my GI doctor in August 7th
Question is, is it ok to still be loosing weight that fast

Try to do some exercise and wieght lifting (don't do cardio), eat lots of food and count your calories, try to be in the 3k + range. (look on the packages and look up the food you eat, try to eat food that is at least in the 400+ Kcal / 100g range, fruit is fine in between to add calories, but the majority of your calories will be coming from the main meals)

I came into ER at 36 kg, I could barely walk, (I'm 180 cm), I'm now back at around 80kg.

If you are not having any pain and you can eat, try to eat and never skip meals. Are you in pain when you eat meals? Try to count your calories and try to at least hit a certain amount of calories each day.

(I'm not a big fan of diets, especially when you need to gain weight, you should be able to eat nuts, good protein like chicken and some carbs here and there. You can avoid things like dairy though, but other than that I didn't avoid anything.

You should be going for calorie dense foods, that's nuts, tablespoons of vegetable oil, chicken breasts for the protein, lots of fruits in between meals, high dense snacks like protein bars, etc)

Protein is a very good idea but the majority of people with IBD can't handle nuts. Everyone is different though so if you can eat them, go for it! I agree that skipping meals is a bad idea. If you're having a hard time eating maybe try smaller and more frequent meals throughout the day (and yes keep track and make sure you're eating enough).

I know you're seeing your GI soon-ish but there's no harm in giving them a call and letting them know about the weight loss or any other symptoms you're having. Doctors treat people better when they know what's going on now rather than assuming you're ok.

I have no problem with being in pain when eating sometimes i feel sick when i go to eat but the only major thing ive had all my life was being a fusser eater.

If i go under 50kgs i might give them a ring.

I lost a lot of weight during a long horrid flare before my surgery.
Ive managed to put on around 10lbs in the 8 weeks since the op by adding 2 bottles of Ensure Plus to my normal 3 meals a day (plus snacks....I love having my appetite back :D )
This takes my daily cal intake to around 2500, plus Im getting extra nutrients from the shakes.

I work in a kitchen at a dementia hospital and they have ensure all the time i wish i could ask for some each day i work.

I like fortisip aswell

As much as I grumble about the NHS, waiting times for appointments etc, it really does come up trumps with regards to the cost of meds and prescriptions.

It costs me about £7 for 56 bottles of Ensure, lasts a month or so.

I really feel for you guys who have to fork out a small fortune just to feel well, so unfair

Hey, I'm not sure if this is healthy for everyone but i've been recently gaining a lot of weight by bulk eating.

I usually eat around 3400cal a day with 2 protein drinks included in that. I eat very healthy tho. Ill eat chicken, rice, fruits, vegetables and such to get to the limit. Peanut butter is also something I eat a lot of to get protein.

Also, I know it's tough to eat a lot with crohn's at times during the day ill find myself gagging on the food because my body is just saying "No more food!" but I just push through it.

I've struggled with being underweight my whole life and with crohn's I was severely underweight, I'm deter minded now to gain and put of a lot of muscle.

So far I've gained 14lbs from bulking and lifting weights.
