Hi everyone.
I was diagnosed at age 12 and this is 20 years ago.
At age 18, developped an abcess on addomen which was drained along with a section of my small intestine (2 feet) and appendice was taken out.
Was able to live for 14 years normaly (simply developped lactose and grain intolerance).
Symptoms of extreme tiredness, bloating, weight gain and slow digestion got me back to see my doctor.
This last december, after many tests (blood was perfect) but coloscopy was clear that it was flaring at the same place surgery was done 14 years back.
Started on a 8 weeks Prednisone treatment. Yesterday, at the fourth week, my doctor said tyo start PURINETHOL.
Reading all the side effects (weight gain, tiredness, hair loss, skin...) and also knowing that is is not suited for pregnancy, I am seriously doubting to start this PURINETHOL.

PLEASE HELP FOR SOME ADVICE. IT IS URGENT.
THANK YOU

I was on 6-MP for a few years with no major side effects.....it didn't totally take care of all symptoms for me - but then again I'm not the best at taking meds as directed.....

As for pregnancy - I actually got pregnant while on 6MP, and since I didn't know I was pregnant, stayed on it until I was @ 5 1/2 months along....had a healthy, happy baby full term.....

Remember, all meds affect people differently, you need to look at everything - also, you can always get things under control, then reduce/stop meds if you are able to tolerate it if you want to get pregnant.....

i have been on 25 mg. of 6mp since 2002. that is a very low dose (how much you take depends on body weight) but i have not had even a tiny flare since i started it. i am 64 so not worried about getting pregnant. it suppresses the immune system, yet luckily i never get colds, flu, etc. and am at the germ-filled gym 6 times a week and work out hard. for me, the fatigue is what gets me. must nap daily and go to bed early. any nick in the skin bleeds and i've got tiny red marks on skin. must have frequent blood work, but so far so good. i'd say give it a try for a few months. it may be your miracle.

I've been on it for just over a year...Right now I'm fighting a flare...but doing ok health wise..knock on wood...(My head that is!) Sue
