Hello.
Three years ago in May 2011, I was diagnosed with Crohn's Disease. I lost a great deal of weight, despite being on Prednisone. Gradually, I gained some of that weight back, and got off of Prednisone after about six months. So, from May-November 2011, I was on Prednisone, was underweight, and eventually reached a moderately safe weight.
From November 2011 to January 2012, I was fine.
Then in February 2012, I developed a mild form of Anorexia Nervosa. I got over that in September 2012, I believe.
That next late December 2012 to early January 1013, I gained about 25 pounds. I was able to drop one or two here and there over the year, but I always gained it back again.
Then in September 2013, I had another flare-up. I went on a couple of drastic diets for my health, and began losing weight very, very slowly, some of which I gradually gained back. Then, in February 2014, I started gaining weight again. It's like my body is resisting everything that could make it lose weight.
I know that this weight gain isn't because I'm feeling better, because I gained a little weight after I got better the first time, and didn't gain again until a year or two later. Then I gained weight when I was ill the second time. That can't be it. I've been on Imuran since I was diagnosed, and I'm wondering if that can have anything to do with it. I know Imuran's common side effects don't include weight gain, but I can't lose weight no matter what I do.
I'm on a very special diet called the Specific Carbohydrate Diet. I'm doing fairly well. Most of my meals are made up of vegetables. I don't eat processed sugars or wheat at all. I'm doing a special exercise program three times a week called T-Tapp, and I walk fairly often.
What could be the problem? Is my Crohn's Disease impeding my progress? Is it azathioprine?
Thank you so much for your help!
