Why do I have a solid poo in the morning followed by loose urgent poos for the rest of the day?

The title says it all.

This is a fairly recent change for me - the last few weeks. But it is starting to affect my confidence about going out as I am never quite sure when I am going to need the loo and if I do it will be urgently.

I am wondering whether to start taking Imodium or Psyllium?

Just wondered what you all think?

Thanks

This is my theory and its based on nothing but my assumption so please do not take it with anything more than a grain of salt.

Maybe your body holding it overnight gives it time to solidify somewhat but normally your stools are loose now for whatever reason. Maybe those first stools got time to sit and bake there before your release so to speak.

I agree with NGNG....I call it the "build up" :p

I get like that sometimes too. Whether or not I get it usually depends on the type of diet I have been eating.

Yeah, I get that sometimes as well. It's like a hard plug of poo, and then "when the dam bursts" you get a lot of d coming out behind it. Seems to be a fairly common IBD thing, and I believe NGNG is correct about it building up overnight.

As for psyllium, it's done me a lot of good. I suggest you have a read through the Psyllium Husks thread here first as it contains a lot of good information. Let me know if you have questions about psyllium!

Thanks guys - the overnight theory was my feeling aswell as it seems to make sense. Guess I will give psyllium a try as from what I've seen on here, it can really help some people.
At least I managed to go out today which I made myself do, as I do not want this disease to control my life anymore than it already does. :rr:

I used to have the same thing, CeeCeeGo! I, too, agree with NGNG. I seem to remember reading somewhere that poo starts out really liquidy, and then as it travels through your system, your intestines reabsorb a lot of the water. (Of course, with IBD, our poo often travels too fast!) So if it's sitting in your butt overnight, more of the water will be absorbed.

(That was a very unscientific explanation, but it works for me! :) )
