I'm inflamed but have no abscess or fistula so why is my GI wanting me on cipro. It never does anything for me.

It is not uncommon for antibiotics to be used when treating inflammation alone. I think there perhaps there is an assumption that because inflammation is present the bowel wall has been breached and the antibiotic is used in a prophylactic sense in case infection is present.

I don't know about Cipro but I have read studies that suggest Flagyl (Metronidazole) has both antibiotic and anti inflammatory properties.

I have only been on flagyl once and I think it helped. Cipro been on it many times but don't think it does anything.

When first diagnosed, I was on Flagyl for quite a long time. Along with Prednisone. It was definately one of the drugs of choice even then.
