I was told that I have to wait for two weeks after my surgery before starting back on Humira. Why so long?

It's a wide spread rule with all surgery and biologics, partly because of a risk of post op infection. It's also a rule that you shouldn't have it for two weeks before or after any general anesthetic because they interact.

Crohns and anesthetic aren't a great mix, when I had my recent surgery they told me the anesthetic might make me flare so if you had a general anesthetic then it could be causing symptoms to worsen. The general mental and physical stress can also cause crohns to flare up. The rules about stopping are there for good reasons but if youre struggling you could contact your team and ask about steroid cover.

Hi ronroush, its a dilemma that I've had in the past as well. The worry that post surgery the disease could creep back. At a time when you're trying to concentrate on recovery you worry about that feeling of being wide open to its return.
I wish you luck & hope that it stays away so you can inject confidentally knowing you're well on the way to recovery & avoid have that horrible feeling of "here we go again".
Best Wishes
Grant

I had to stop Humira 4 weeks before and restarted 2 weeks after surgery (off it for 6 weeks!). It's to reduce the risk of infection. Good luck.
