Hi all!

My husband is currently undergoing tests to determine what is wrong with him and i am beside myself with worry.

I know some of you here will think im wrong in thinking this but i am praying it does turn out to be Chrones as all his symptoms point to this, although as im sure you're aware they also point to cancer.

He was always very fit and healthy and this last few months he has been so unwell.

His symptoms began last year, just before xmas really, although looking back it was probably a while before as he used to occasionally complain of pain and on and off runs.

He did go to the dr and they tried treatment for piles as he said he was passing blood etc, he did have mild piles then to.

He is a typical stubborn man and refused to keep going back, but now the pain and weightloss is too much for him to cope with.

He has dropped from a healthy 11.5 stone to 8 stone 10 since xmas.

He's just had results back from blood tests and his white blood count is high and inflammation levels are high, although he isnt anemic and all liver, kidney levels are fine.

He gets alot of stomach cramps, bright red blood in his stools, backache and tiredness.

I know no one can give me a diagnosis, but do you think Chrones seems more likely? He has been given tablets to help control the runs, but they dont seem to be working (4 days using them).

We're due to take a stool sample to the dr on monday (he is working until then) and he is seeing the specialist on the 25th July (apparently booked in as an urgent case, long wait for urgent i feel!)

Thankyouf or listening to me droan on.

Hello Mrsconn,
What a worrying time you are both having.
It can be a lengthy process getting the appropriate diagnosis and treatment.
A good sign is that he is continuing to work, must be quite an effort for him.
The symptoms could add up to Crohn's but he will need further diagnostic tests such as colonoscopy, endoscopy to determine a differential diagnosis and course of treatment.
If he suddenly gets worse you should not hesitate to take him to the hospital emergency roon where he can receive prompt treatment.
The high white count and the increased value of the inflammation markers could be suggestive of an infection, and also of IBD.
Three weeks will soon pass, but if the situation worsens then you know what to do.
What was the prescribed medication?
Is it an antibiotic?
Hope you both feel better soon.
hugs and best wishes
Trysha

Thankyou for your reply. He hasnt been given any antibiotics as yet, the dr is concerned about giving him anything too strong at the moment until he has seen the specialist for the colonoscopy etc. What he has been given is something to try and slow down the bowel to stop the diarrhea, begins with an L but i cant remember the name, he has taken them to work with him so cant check lol

Lomotil I imagine? How is he doing now mrsconn46? Have things gotten better or worse? I know where I am whenever you go to the ER it helps you get a sooner appointment with the GI. Something to think about if it comes to that. Is he still able to work or are there any new symptoms?
