Hello,
My 12 year old was diagnosed with IBD last August. She has complained about stomach pain nearly all her life so I wasn’t surprised when we found out. We are on our 2nd pediatric GI (about to switch back to the first) and we are trying our third medication (remicaide). She has gone from 70lbs to 101lbs in two months thanks to prednisone :(
I am so frustrated because i feel like everything is an experiment & nothing is working...
Has anyone ever had success with natural remedies and diet??? i am at a point where i just want to stop all meds...she is a pre-teen and this is very hard on her. She doesn’t want to go anywhere because people always bring up the weight gain and it makes her very self-conscious. I am so confused....

Hi there and welcome to the forum. I'm so sorry to hear about your daughter, that's absolutely heartbreaking :( *sigh* A couple things:

1. I would strongly suggest looking into enteral/elemental nutrition. In the pediatric population especially, the remission rates are as high as prednisone. It's a great treatment option without the bad side effects.

2. We have a parents of kids with IBD subforum which is absolutely fantastic. The parents there understand exactly what you are going through and are an amazing group of people. I strongly suggest you check it out :)

We're here for you anytime. All my best to you, your little one, and your family.

Hi and :welcome:

I am so sorry to hear about daughter Mum...

David has pointed you in the right direction hun. Please do look into Enteral Nutrition as a way of stabilising things. We have a number of parents here with children on it and they are doing wonderfully well. Like any and every treatment for Crohn's it doesn't work for everyone but is well worth the try. It is safe and with no side effects and it not only provides nutrition but rests the bowel as well.

Please have a look at the Diet, Fitness and Supplement Forum...

...and do pop by the Parent's Forum, you will be very welcome and there a quite a number of the parent's with children your daughter's age.

Where is your daughter's Crohn's located?

What are her continuing symptoms?

Good luck and welcome aboard!
