Wow... my surgeon did something he wasn't supposed to.

I just had an i&d a few days ago of an abscess. I just realized that the skin flap/tag thing that was left over from a previous abscess years ago was cut off by my surgeon. This is extremely frustrating since I asked him if he could cut it off when I had a different surgery last year. He told me that it's ill advised to cut off the skin tag since crohn's pts don't heal well and it could lead to a bunch of other complications. He never told me he was going to cut it off this time. Now I'm nervous that some complication is going to happen in the future. Why would he do this??? I don't understand it! It wasn't even near the incised abscess! wtf!

Sadly or otherwise what is done is done.
Hopefully it will be for the best.
You should be asking the surgeon what caused him to change direction from the previous time.
He may have noted some changes that caused him to change his mind about it.
Perhaps it could be a source of future infections---who knows.
Best ask the surgeon or your personal physician.
I am sorry you have to go through the worry of it all.
Feel better soon
Hugs and best wishes

I wouldn't,t worry about it.its more than likely it wasn't,t suitable for removal last year ,one operation at time is more than enough.it must be universal that doctors have to say a dumb throwaway remark which causes nothing but worry and consternation.i,ve had a lot of surgery over the years(orthopedic) and other than one incident I heal well.so try to forget it,get well.good luck

Thanks guys. The idea that it would prevent future infections has gone through my mind. I remember when I first started getting abscesses I thought it was a result of the excess hanging skin and believed that if it was gone that it would solve a lot of my problems. It's mostly frustration at this part since it is around the holidays and while the incised abscess area is healing very well and quickly, the excision area is still quite raw and painful. I just wish I had known this was in the cards from the beginning.

I had two perianal skin tags removed a few years ago. While it was very painful, it all healed up just fine. So I wouldn't worry about the healing too much. But that is very frustrating that your surgeon did that without your knowledge. I would definitely mention it next time I saw/called him. Good luck with your healing.
