Hey everyone,

I'm glad there's a community for this! Makes me feel better.

So I'm about 120 lbs and about ~5'7" and I can't gain any weight. I'm a total lightweight compared to my friends and it sort of bothers me. I eat like most of my friends maybe a little less occasionally but never gain any weight.

My chrons isn't so bad. I go to the bathroom once a day and some times have loose bowel. My doctor prescribed Pentasa, which helped my insides feel a bit better. Less bloating feeling from diary products (I'm lactose-intolerant) and better formed bowel. However, I haven't gained any weight and stopped it. I don't seem to have flares like most people do (or at least yet to notice it).

I eat pretty much everything, except I avoid large amounts diary products at one time. I've tried whey protein without much effect. I've heard some people drink ensure. Whats the best diet for a chronie to gain weight?

Thanks!!

Hi!
I'm in the exact same boat- I'm 5'8", 120ish pounds, and trying to gain weight >_<

If fatty foods don't upset your stomach, then I heartily recommend the fast food diet. (Oxymoron, ehh?) Simply replace normal meals with burgers and fries.

If not that, surround yourself with your favorite foods.
Try to fit in snacks, even if they are small.

I do not like the taste of Ensure, so I cannot vouch for its effectiveness.

Good luck!

EDIT: I'd also keep away from raw vegetables. Some raw broccoli brought on a blockage. Of course, everyone can tolerate different amounts of fiber.

Personaly I would want to gain weight by muscle, not fat. Eating crap will make you feel and look like crap.

I was that weight until about 18yo, then I started exercising properly. Went kickboxing 2-3times a week (although built it up from 1 times a week) Hitting the punch bag really builds up all your muscles. Started jogging as well. Dont really do any weights at all as I find kickboxing hard enough lol.

With all that I started to eat more and keep the weight on. Although I have fast food, say once a week, the rest of the time I eat healthily. Whey protein works pretty well if you exercise. If im correct it helps rebuild muscles, so you will need to break the fibres for them to rebuild, drinking whilst sitting on your ass will do bugger all

This time last year I was 6' and about 160 pounds and for the first time in years felt skinny. Right now I'm about 208 but only 15% body fat. Between the prednisone, half gallon of milk a day, 200 grams of protein or more (about 100 of that from Optimum Nutrition 100% Whey), and living at the gym and ice rink I have really packed on some muscle. It's a constant battle and some days I would be in the bathroom a dozen times a day but it sounds like you are in a position to be able to do it.

Have you tried soy milk and such? What were you using for a protein?
BWS1982 had some great info for me, he is into lifting as well.

I am in this same boat - after being in the hospital for 24 days - my weight dropped drastically. 1 - I had major surgery so that is one reason I lost weight, but 2 - once I started a normal diet - i couldn't eat anything. I had no desire to eat and I've lost all muscle mass.

I am now making myself drink Boost (Chocolate flavor) b/c I know it has vitamins and nutrion I need. I've lost a good amount of weight from the hospitalization and I am so down and discouraged. My entire body after this last surgery in May depleated me completely of all nutrion and my organs were as the surgeone said, "Traumatized" so yeah i've lost a heck of a lot of weight.

I see where some have tried Soy milk, but I am so scared to try it. Dairy doesn't bother me that much but i drink in moderation.

ALOT of food. I was like you and only ate what my friends did and never got anywhere. Now I eat around 5000-6000 calories a day with a whey protein drink thrown in and so far have gained 8lbs this summer. Im 5'11 and 158lbs

You have to take it steady as well, Like weight loss if you try and change your lifestyle drastically, it puts a lot of stress on your body. Thats why crash diets dont work. Start eating a bit more, possibly snacking a little in between meals. Although if you try and eat too much when it comes to a main meal youre not going to fancy it. Exercise will make you hungrier and remember muscle weighs more than fat. Maybe join a weightlifting forum for tips and advice (although i do remember watching a programme on weightlifting .. eating blended chicken milkshakes everyday didnt sound too appetising)
