Has SCD diet helped anyone with IBD?

alchemy, He is 1.5 years off prednisone. He doesn't eat all of SCD. He eats what he likes, tons of protein and fruit, and then what the SCD dietician says he needs for a balanced diet. He eats nothing that we know of that isn't SCD. He is under the care of GIs at two different children's...

Why we use EEN in kids and why it works

I'll look at food diary he keeps prior to dietician meetings to be sure but he takes in a ridiculously high number of calories and burns a lot too. Shakes are always incremental to meals, never in place of. We don't let him have them until he eats. He has a huge breakfast and dinner at home...

Why we use EEN in kids and why it works

My son really never has a day with less than 4 cans of EN. Some days he has 6+. I do wonder what role the EN plays. Have not found any studies.

Has SCD diet helped anyone with IBD?

My son had clean scopes and biopsies after months of prednisone, EEN, and now a long term mix of militantly strict SCD and about 30% EN. He is monitored quarterly with labs and FCP and last year had 2 scopes. Honestly sometimes the idea of a med seems easier!!

Just realized it has been 7.5 years since diagnosis!

Kim, I am so sorry to hear this about Caitlyn. I'm sure you are shocked and frankly I would be angry also! There really aren't any good words other than we are sending you and her lots of support, prayers, positive energy and hope.

Go through with scopes? Possible diagnosis?

Hi there. I'm sorry you are stuck in this nightmare and wanted to offer support. Years before my son had his first full blown meltdown flare and was diagnosed with Crohn's he showed intermittent weird symptoms that looking back was clearly crohns related. We saw some Drs who pretty much were...

Has SCD diet helped anyone with IBD?

Hi. My son has been on SCD for a year and a half. He is closely, actually excessively, monitored by dr with labs, fcp tests and has had 2 colonoscopies in this time. Dr said with one flare or sign of tests going wrong direction he would advise meds. Knock on wood, good for now. He also is on...

    EEN diet

If he has made it 11 days, he is over the hard part. Go tell him he is amazing!!!! My son did it for 8 weeks then slowly added back in food from the Specific Carbohydrate Diet. Almost two years later he is about 30% forumula and rest Scd. It has become his normal and just what he does. He even...

    Decision Made

Salad shooter, I hope you read this in the morning after a good night of rest. I see qualities in you from this post that we all hope to have! Brave, strong, a fighter, able to build good relationships with those around you (neighbors, drs), compassionate about others with this disease as...

    Our Story

Hi food4thought I'm late responding to my Little pony's tag bc I had some log in issues. My son is on scd which does limit a lot of foods. However, he keeps a good diary for our quarterly visits with the nutritionist. Every time we see her she runs percentages and makes adjustments based on...

Taking time off work and still keeping your job? Plus Update

I'll be thinking of you and Grace while you are in the program. What if this is just what she needs to get her healthy, right treatment and great quality of life? Very exciting. I hope Dad and brother find some paths to make this easier for them (and therefore you have peace of mind while you...

    Colonoscopy Question....

We've been through several scopes with different combinations. My son once had a clean scope, as in high five let's celebrate clean, and then biopsies showed inflammation. I don't want to be a downer but be prepared biopsies could be fine or not. I hope they are clean too!

6 weeks since son's diagnosis -- how do you handle the emotions?

You've been given good advice but I wanted to comment on the introvert and being exhausted part. I know some people love to talk about it but for me that was totally draining. It completely took the wind out of my sails when I was having a decent day, thinking this was chrinic but we were...

    Stephen... Remicade now...

I really hate that he (and you) keep getting hit with one problem after another. This does have to end eventually but that doesn't make dealing with it now any easier. It sounds like you are getting some good medical care and I hope that leads to some answers and treatments soon. I worry about...

    Sibling Issues

I don't blame her for being sad. I'm sure you are too, and scared. I hope and pray this is something easy to identify and put to behind you. There is a good chance it is. I'm glad the tests have been ordered. Maybe even by the time results come back things will be better. I hope she can get...

    Sibling being evaluated

I am sorry to hear all of this. I'm really not sure how to parse this all out. Many hopes here - that you and GI have some wisdom and clarity on next steps, that the insurance company cooperates on the PT and it helps, and that she heals quickly from the concussion...
