    Happy Nurses' Day

Indeed, Dusty, you were one of the first people to spring to mind. The time you take to look after us on here, as well as your IRL patients, does not go unnoticed or unappreciated xxx

    Happy Nurses' Day

I didn't know you could get cards, but then I live in the sticks. Only learned of it yesterday cos my friend, who's a nurse, posted something on Facebook.

    Looking like crohns :(

Hi Caithanc. Sorry to hear about your diagnosis. Definitely a time of mixed emotions, yeah? I was the same. I'd been ill for 8 months when I got diagnosed, and I had a good cry when I found out, but was also relieved to get some answers and get on the way to being well. Are you being referred to...

    Omeprazole and pred!!

Hi Andy. I had been on Pred for 6 months when I was admitted to hospital and the docs and pharmacist there were really surprised I hadn't been prescribed a 'protecter' and put me on Omeprazole. To be honest, I hadn't had any stomach issues on the Pred. Well, apart from the Crohn's ones!

What led up to your first resection?

Hi Khaley. My situation was as Dusty describes. I had an intestinal fistula. Eventually one GI referred me to hospital on the mainland for a resection, but when I got there the surgeon thought I should try Infiximab ( Remicade ) first. I was a lot better after three infusions, but the fistula...

    Waiting to feel normal

Same here. I had open non-Crohn's related surgery in my mid twenties and bounced back really quickly. My recent surgery was laparoscopic, but it was a good 8 weeks before I felt fully fighting fit again. Maybe it's an age thing! Rest up and hope it's not too long before you are back to your old...

    9 days post surgery

Hi Theresa It's good to hear that things have gone well with your surgery. That's quite unusual, your bowel waking up so quick. So the distension is not because you're backed up, then! They do pump you full of air during surgery in order to see the organs better, so it might be that some of that...

Help ... 5 months diagnosed still trying to get meds sorted

Hello there and welcome to the forum. I'm with Clash. When first diagnosed, I was put on Prednisolone and then Azathioprine. I had been on it for about three months and starting to feel a good bit better, but was admitted to hospital for tests for persistent issues with a fistula and abscess...

Had colonosocopy yday..not sure what to think now!!!

How frustrating for you :-( It can so stressful going through the tests, which are all pretty horrible and for many of us it took a while to get a confirmed diagnosis. It can be really difficult to see properly into the TI. Perhaps the Pred has knocked the inflammation on the head. Have you...

    Crohns people - intelligence test

I wouldn't say I was super intelligent, but I was always in the top group in my school classes. I went on to get my degree in English and Drama then a Diploma in EFL. I'm studying through work to qualify as an AAT accounting technician, and have passed all my exams so far. The eternal student...

Hi all! Back after 3 years.

Welcome back, but I am sorry to hear you are feeling poorly again :-( I am also sorry to hear you are giving up your dancing. But I can see how doing such a physically taxing job would be almost impossible in full flare. I guess you are really going to miss it. I hope you get someone to properly...

    Surgery help

Hello there. I had surgery for an intestinal fistula - mine was bowel to bladder. I'm not sure what symptoms you have with yours. I had a lot of pain from an abscess associated with the fistula and horrible bladder problems. I spent a year on a lot of meds but the fistula wouldn't stay healed. I...

Small Bowel Resection in January 2014. Can someone help me out by answering a few questions?

Hey there. Just to add to all the good points the others have made, I still have issues with loose stools and a noisy gut, but it tends to be if I overdo the fatty and high sugar content foods, so having a look at your diet might help.

    5.5 weeks post right-hemicolectomy ... and confused!

Hey there Benny and a big welcome to the forum. I'd second what Valleysangel says. My surgery was laproscopic and went smoothly, but I was quite surprised how long it took to feel back to some sort of normality. I had major non-Crohn's related surgery when I was in my twenties and got over it...

    IBD nurses

I have an IBD nurse on the mainland. I only found out about him when I was admitted to hospital in Inverness where he's based. He's the only one in the Highlands and Islands apparently! He's really good. He was the one who did my Infliximab infusions and, cos of the distance involved, he told...

    Tired!

Yes, it seems to be very common amongst IBD sufferers. I guess when things are inflamed and swollen, back pain could be caused by pressure. Or referred pain? I know some of mine was related to bladder issues caused by a fistula. It has almost totally gone since I had the surgery. Only resurfaces...

My first surgery due to Crohn's! :(

Hi there Ragdoll. I'm so sorry you are having a hard time of things at the moment :-( Have a look at the surgery stories on this link Many of us, including myself, have had the type of resection that you are having and shared there stories here. I think they will give you a good idea of what to...

    Tired!

Hi Ness. Good to see you here on the forum, but sorry it's because you are unwell. When I was flaring badly, I had really debilitating lower back pain too. I found the best way to alleviate it was with a hot water bottle. I'm guessing a heating pad might do the trick too.
