Does this sound like a fistula? TMI!

Long time no see (if anyone remembers me?) It's been a fairly quiet time IBD wise, but since around the beginning of the year, I've had some symptoms creeping back in (previously in complete remission during pregnancy and first year after my daughter was born). Some urgency, mucous, unformed...

    Breastfeeding and crhons

I was on azathioprine and pentasa throughout my pregnancy and also breastfeed my daughter while taking them. The latest studies suggest that azathioprine doesn't pass into breast milk in any large quantities and babies don't seem to suffer any side effects. So there are drugs out there which can...

Anyone familiar with Ferrous Sulphate (Iron supplement) and crohn's

I've taken ferrous sulphate before with no problems. However, if it's upsetting your stomach then go back to your doc, there are other types of iron tablet they can prescribe that are gentler, failing that I think there are liquid supplements too. They just like to try the sulphate first as...

    Pregnancy and azathioprine

Hope everything's going well, just wanted to reassure you as I gave birth to a healthy daughter last year, I was on azathioprine throughout pregnancy and have breastfed while taking it and my daughter shows no signs of any side effects. I was advised to take a higher dose of folic acid than is...

    Crohn's Disease and getting pregnant

I would check with your doctor again before making the final decision. I had a baby last year, I was in remission before trying to conceive, however once I became pregnant I felt better than I had in a long time! I had one day where I felt ill the whole pregnancy. I ate popcorn and everything...

    Is Azathioprine safe during pregnancy??

I didn't have an amnio, I wasn't aware that we were at increased risk for anything other than low birth weight. My milk hasn't been tested, but I split my dose (50mg in the morning and 50mg in the evening). Most of the studies done on aza have been on transplant patients taking larger amounts-...

    Is Azathioprine safe during pregnancy??

Hi, I gave birth to a little girl 3 months ago. I took aza throughout pregnancy and am now breastfeeding still on aza. My little girl is perfectly healthy. I was classed as a high risk pregnancy and given extra growth scans because of the risk of low birth weight. Well as it happens she was big...

    Gastroparesis and acid reflux

Yeah, think I'm going to have to put my foot down next time I see the gastro. Since Gaviscon *usually* works for me, they just tell me to take that rather than finding out the cause. I need a proper investigation of my upper GI to see what the problem is.

    Gastroparesis and acid reflux

Feeling a bit sorry for myself tonight. I was woken up about half past 12 by a horrible reflux episode. My own fault- I had a super hot curry as I am trying all the old wives' tales about getting baby moving out now she is full term, and before the hospital induce me for gestational diabetes...

    Medication during pregnancy and breastfeeding

    Here's one study http://onlinelibrary.wiley.com/doi/10.1111/j.1471-0528.2006.01232.x/full And another http://www.ecco-jccjournal.org/article/S1873-9946(10)00193-5/abstract

    Medication during pregnancy and breastfeeding

Hi, I am currently 36 weeks pregnant, taking azathioprine, and planning on breastfeeding. The latest info on aza suggests that although it is excreted in breastmilk in some (not all) women, it is in tiny amounts, and there appears to be no long term effects (think they followed a group of babies...

    Stool inflammation marker test???

I think you are referring to fecal calprotectin? (Hopefully that linked to the wiki page about it) In which case it is still under investigation as to whether it is a useful test or not. So far studies have been done with confirmed IBD cases, it hasn't as far as I know been trialled as a...

Jeans Shopping Not advised During a Flate up or on Prednisone

Can I just say- maternity jeans! Seriously, they are so comfy, I'm going to keep a pair for use during flares.

    Sedation fear

Are you in the UK? If so, you can request to not be sedated and just have IV painkillers. But I second what clash said about twilight sedation, you aren't put to sleep but rather it feels like being pleasantly drunk or stoned- as if you have just downed a couple of shots, or been given morphine...

    Crohn's and steroids and testing

I think it's worth a try while on the steroids, I had been taking steroids for a few weeks before I got a colonoscopy done, and the inflammation was visible and confirmed via biopsy. (I was also still having some symptoms, just not as severe as before taking the steroids) Just bear in mind that...

    Pregnancy or crohns symptoms?

I had the runs in early pregnancy. It's to do with hormones- a lot of women get the runs around the time of their period too.

Taking Celebrex short term for Crohn's?

Personally, I wouldn't want to risk it, especially as I had my first ever flare after some sort of throat/ear infection, which I took ibuprofen for 6 days or so. I would rather take a low dose codeine/paracetamol pill- they are available over the counter here. I would be phoning the doctor and...

    Concentrating and reading

Might be a daft question, but when did you last have your eyes tested? I wear glasses, and I notice that when I'm due a new pair it's harder to focus when I'm tired, and it gives me headaches. Even if you don't think you need glasses it's worth getting your vision checked because they will look...

    Diaper Rash

I get a sore butt crack from over wiping, mucous and sweat, I guess it is more or less the same as diaper rash. I use wet wipes after going to the toilet, then pat dry (I do this all the time as a preventative measure) and if I'm sore I apply a barrier cream (either zinc based or like Vaseline)...

    Confused

Yellow eyes could be a sign that something is not right with your liver, abdo swelling could also indicate liver. I would go back to the doctors (or a walk in centre) with the new symptoms ASAP.
