After years if problems and doctors looking in the wrong area doctors realized I have bile reflux, but my stool sample showed A very positive for inflammation in the gut so my consultant thinks I have IBD, just need to confirm that by colonoscopy.

My problem is sedation but I don't no y. I'm scared and feel like crying with the thought. Iv had endoscopy and took the throat spray only because I was that scared of sedation.

I got my gallbladder removed 3/4 years ago and remember (although it's different) being put to sleep, I panicked, started breathing fast and tears streamed down my face.

I'm petrified, the prep I can manage, I'm not even scared of the colonoscopy cause I no I can do it. But the sedation scares me so bad. My appointments not for 2 weeks yet but still I'm so scared.

Has any1 else been the same? People I speak to just don't get it, say I'm bring dramatic. I'm not. I handled endoscopy with no problems. It's the sedation that's getting to me. Please any1 make this easier xx

I have anxiety issues so sedation was a worry for me too my first colonoscopy. I made the gi aware and after registering at the hospital they went ahead and gave me versed to calm my anxiety. Since then I have had an endoscopy and another colonoscopy with out the intial versed. It's not actual sedation but a cocktail that induces twilight sedation(not the same as being put completely under) although you still have no memory of procedure. I would discuss these fears with your gi.

Are you in the UK? If so, you can request to not be sedated and just have IV painkillers. But I second what clash said about twilight sedation, you aren't put to sleep but rather it feels like being pleasantly drunk or stoned- as if you have just downed a couple of shots, or been given morphine or similar.

Thanks for the replies. I will let the doctors know about my worries. I dont know what is scaring and upsetting me so much about sedation! Yeah I'm in the uk, they said il will get painkillers and sedation xx

I know it is easy to say don't worry. I have had sedation four times and it isn't like a GA. I have never felt myself going off to sleep, I have just never remembered anything of the procedure afterwards!
