Totally new to talking about Crohn'n

Welcome Tedcin! This is a great forum for information and support. You're quite right that the disease shouldn't be your life. I can't eat donuts either - must be the fat/sugar combination but they are lethal for me. Furniture was my passion for a long time - I used to sell modular furniture...

What is a flare up? :(

Sulfasalazine is used for ulcerative colitis and can cause a folic acid deficiency. That's why your doctor prescribed the folic acid with the Sulfasalazine. My rheumatologist uses it to control the joint pain I was having. I take 2000 mg a day but had to work up to that - adding 500 mg every...

How fast does food pass through your bowels?

40 hours? I don't think so - mine is about 8 hours on a good day. When I'm flaring, 1/2 an hour is all it takes. Pity that they didn't look at people that had digestive problems for their study.

    Colonoscopy

I'm so sorry Peterson that you're having so much difficulty with the prep for the scope. I just finished mine yesterday and I know the amount of liquid is so hard to get down. My stomach doesn't empty quickly and I feel like a barrel when I'm trying to get 4 litres of horrible liquid down. My...

    Remicade Club Support Group

Well, the Remicade works for me. Colonoscopy was great - some scarring, but no inflammation. A couple of ulcers but those might have been caused by some antibiotics I had to be on a few weeks ago. GI is very happy. I'm just glad it's over and that the Remi is working so well. I hate Colyte -...

    It's not working

You should definitely contact your GI about this. One of the side effects of Imuran is fever. Mine were so violent my GI took me off it & replaced it with methotrexate. Check with your GI. Good luck!

    New here

I don't know yet but I've been diagnosed with Crohns since 2010 and they just found a tumour on my thyroid. Had a biopsy done yesterday and will get the results in a week. I do know that if it's cancerous, I have to stop my Remicade.

    Had to quit my job......

Kero: You can apply for Employment Insurance sick benefits - they last for 15 weeks. Then there is the disability tax credit your spouse can apply for. Take a look here - this is all the programs Alberta offers. http://www.programs.alberta.ca/Living/ There's also a group in Edmonton that is...

    Fever/Chills/Headache from Imuran?

Strawberry: Exactly that happened to me. I've never had a fever like that (103 F) every night. My GI wasmafraidmi had meningitis as I had neck pain as well but all the tests done came back normal (including CT scans). My GI took me off the Imuran and after about a week the fevers stopped and...

Venting - just sick of "being sick"

Sorry about this but I have to vent to someone. I was diagnosed about 3 years ago with Crohns. It's doing oaky - we have finally got the joint pain to go away and the gut seems to be controlled by the Remicade. So I decided that I'd had enough of the stress with the company I've been with...

    Nonalcoholic Steatohepatitis (NASH)

You should speak to your doctor about your concerns. Sometimes making a list before hand helps you to be able to concentrate on the answers. You can also ask your doctor for copies of your blood tests. I get tested monthly as I also have NAFLD and my doctors watch my levels. We also noticed...

    Constipation a symptom?

Yes - most of us go through periods of both D and constipation. You should definitely go through with your recommended scopes. They will tell your doctor what is going on with you. Take care!

    Stressed out

Ron: My thoughts are with you. I hoping the stress will decrease or you manage to find a way to deal with it. On-going constant stress is not good for you. Take care!

    Really rough day.

Hope: I'm glad you got through it. Now you need to take care of yourself. Be sure to watch for the signs of depression. Keep up a routine for yourself - no sitting in your pj's all day. Try to schedule some time away from the house every day - even if it's only a walk around the block or a...

    Really rough day.

Hope: I'm in the same boat. I'm so sorry you have to go through all this. Female bosses can be the worst. I've been in my industry for 10 years and have a stellar reputation. Then got hit with a compressed disc this January and nerve pain all down my arm. My dr has taken me off on EI sick...

Does anyone else have a 'fatty liver' ?

It could be Crohns related. I've been diagnosed with fatty liver disease as well. I don't drink at all.

    Remicade Club Support Group

So sorry to hear about your joint pain. I had joint pain before I started Remicade and during. My GI finally sent me to a rheumatologist who said it was Crohns based joint pain not caused by any drug. I guess Crohns can cause joint pain as well as bowel problems. She finally got me on...

    When do you refill prescription?

Alberta Blue Cross will only allow a 3 month supply at once. I usually get my prescriptions a week before they run out. I've had a problem in the past with short supply of some medications so I don't leave it till the last minute.
