i just got diagnosed with ulcerative colitis and crohn's disease. a mix of both. i am 17 yrs old. the damage to my colon is surprisingly severe. im currently on colazal (9 pills/day) and a rowasa (mesalamine) enema nightly. im looking heavily into diet control. i was wondering if theres anything that anyone has tried which has greatly improved their tissue and their condition and hopefully made their colon much better. i am willing to stick to strict diet regime.

hey there & welcome
im 19, so we are close in age, ive also been on both colazol and the rowasa enema in the past.
well, the only experience with diets that ive had is that i've tried the Specific Carb Diet. its very restrictive and i did it for a couple months, but i was flaring too badly and losing so much weight that i had to stop and just get calories any way i could.
i do think that the principles behind the diet make sense though and theres a lot of testimonies of people who have done well on it. there are some threads about it here in the food forum, so you can use the search to look for it. its main principle is the elimination of harmful bacteria, by depriving them of the foods they thrive on--sugar, starches etc.
heres the main web site about it though:

good luck and feel free to introduce yourself in the My Story forum, or ask any other questions you may have about crohn's or UC, ok?
see you around :)

Hi Kalu-
The only diet I have tried is the low residue diet. It's not too restrictive, but I think it only helped a little bit. It still allows starch, so that's not really what you are looking for. Have you noticed any imrovement at all in your symptoms since starting the meds?
Welcome to the forum!

I haven't tried a single diet but have take a page or two out of SCD which Kello mentioned and adapted it to my own. I also saw a nutritionist who gave me good tips on how to eat and what to add/reduce.

I started slowly - cutting out corn syrup, reducing breads and sugars - as well as trying to eat same thing every day for breakfast. It's been working for me so far as I've become more intune to problem foods.

Good luck and welcome to the forum.
