My son has been on 6 mp off and on for years. Had a flare so he had a hospital stay has been on prednisone also for a month and a half. While in the hospitAl he started getting a little cold but since then he has developed a horrible cough. We went to an after hours clinic last weekend and he has had a week of amoxicillin but now his cough actually seems worse. Has anyone's child had this before? He has not had a fever but the cough is bad with some phlegm. Could this be the meds? Really concerned and heading to his family doc in the morning.

Have him checked by the doc for whooping cough.
It can be very mild in kids who got the shot but are on immunosuppressants .
Hope its just a cough

My daughter has asthma so she tends to get productive coughs that linger. If the phlegm is any color except clear the Pulmonologist always wants to know immediately as that indicates an infection of some sort. Otherwise we give her inhaler and reduce physical activity as needed.

Hey tanners mom,

Sorry to hear your boy is having problems. I hope you are able to get things sorted soon. :ghug:

On the fever side of things, just bear in mind that Prednisone does have the potential to mask a fever.

Okay so Tanner has now had 3 days of Zithromax after a week of Amoxicillin and has an inhaler too. Coughed til he threw up in bed at 2 a.m and says after a coughing fit it is harder to catch his breath. How concerned should I be? No fever but the phlegm he coughs up is yellowish green. Gross and tmi I know. Should I call the dr. Again today or wait til Friday on the last day of antibiotic?

Just for peace of mind, I would call and ask of they want to see him again. With his suppressed immune system he needs a little more attention than the average kid.

Coughing to the point of vomiting
tends to be ER worthy in our house.
Does he have asthma???

might want to see a pulmologist to be evaluated by a specialist.

Hope he is feeling better
