Hi
Anyone taken this drug?
What side effects did you have if you took it?

I started a few days ago & feel awful, dizzy, sick, weak & tired.
100mg per day & 40 mg pred

Thanks

Hi again Tone! My son was on 6mp for a little over a year w/o any ill effects. It did fail to maintain full remission so we switched to Humira. Perhaps as you wean off the pred, things will settle. They claim it can take up to 6 months for the 6mp to reach therapeutic levels in your system. For us, I'd say about 3 months was about right. I hope it works for you but don't suffer ill effects for long w/o speaking to your doc about it. There are too many options to try!!

I've been on 6MP for around 11 years now. You've got to give it some time to work, probably around 90 days or so. I don't recall any major side effects other then some headaches. I started high like you but now on a maintenance dose of 50mg daily. I'm combining it with remicade and it's working well. Call your Dr if the problems become persistant, but if you can manage for several months it will probably be very beneficial!

Good Luck!
Jeff

Hi Jeff
Think I need to give it time to work, just felt so sick yesterday, will plod on!!
Thanks for advice

Did your dr do a prelim blood test to see how well you metabolize it? I'm currently on the drug but before I received it I was given a prelim blood test which showed I'm a moderate metabolizer. I started off at 25 mgs then upped the dose to 50 mgs when my range wasn't theraputic.

Yes he did.
I have weekly blood tests too all seems fine so far.
I took a 50mg tab 1 hr ago feeling a bit light headed but not as bad as yesterday

Are you ok with all your meds?

I take 100mg 6MP, 40mg Pred, Codeine 30mg & Modulen Liquid diet stuff-tastes like sweet baby formula, have to rest my gut to see if it helps.
What a nightmare eh?

I lose track of what I take, oh and Vit D & Calcium too ;-(

Yep, me too, but I got one of those pill organiser boxes and that keeps me on track. I fill it up a week in advance so I can see when I need to put my repeat prescriptions in.

Some people find they do better when they take the 6MP or Imuran at night. They can then sleep through any initial side effects.

I never experienced a lot of nausea from the 6mp but I always take it at night. Really the only side effect I have felt from it is hair loss. The hair loss started about 3-4 months into taking it. I'm hoping between the Biotin supplement and using Nioxin shampoo, it'll stop falling out and start growing back soon. :::fingers crossed:::

Make sure you keep on top of getting your blood drawn on a regular basis. For months, everything came back fine for me until just recently. My white blood cell count dropped too low so my doc had to lower my dosage to 50mg instead of the 100 I had been on.

Best of luck to you, hope it works well for ya!

I'm on 4 pills liald which gives me headaches and stomache cramps if taken without food
I'm on 50 mgs of 6mp which also give me stomache cramps and slight nausia
Iron and multivitamin
After all this my doctor said I was in remission just so a month later I could have stomache cramps and bloody stools...thanks doc :/

It sounds like your crohns is in your ilium which is why you need the B12, my sister doesn't have crohns but she has to have B12 pills though I haven't heard of any side effects shes mentioned but her pills are I beleive a low dose.

Also you could be dizzy because your on a liquid modulin diet. I noticed if there isn't anything in my stomache(you know at least some bread or something) then my tummy will ache and I have some dizzy spells(though more of the achy tummy)

Hope you get better soon
