Abdominal adhesions

I'm fairly new here and do NOT have a diagnosis yet but I have a question.

I had a hysterectomy in 2006. The surgeon said that it was straightforward and would be about an hour. It actually took a little over 5 hours do to abdominal adhesions. He couldn't understand there being so much since I had never had surgery before.

A year and a half ago I had appendicitis and the same thing happened, what should have been about 30 minutes turned into a several hour event due to more adhesions.

My gastroenterologist is leaning towards a dx of crohns for me (awaiting the test results from a capsule endoscopy I had a two days ago). I haven't told him about the adhesions (really just haven't thought about them until last night), but am now wondering if CD could caused them?

Thanks!

It's not common but I've definitely read stories of people here with an abnormal amount of adhesions without any prior surgeries. Does Crohn's cause it or is it some other factor? Unfortunately, I don't know and don't see any good studies or papers on it after a quick check, sorry.

What are your symptoms that are making your GI think Crohn's?

Thanks for your reply!

My gastro is looking at Crohn's because I have other autoimmune disorders (Primary Biliary Cirrhosis and *possibly* Celiac (went gluten free with the PBC DX and refuse to do a "gluten challenge"). I was told I had IBS years ago. But things have gotten quite "intense" the last 3 months or so.

I passed out cold and it was found that I was very anemic (quite suddenly), about the same time I started having really bad d, cramping and unexplained weight loss (as of today, I've lost 25 pounds since July.

I see my gastro every 3-4 months for my PBC (which has been remarkably stable) and he has been shocked by the difference in my physical appearance.

I also had abdominal adhesions without any previous surgery. Long understanding dx of IBs.
