Abscess drainage?

On July 22 I had a Percutaneous Abscess Drainage tube installed. Home care comes to check it, every day at first, every second day now. I went for a Tube Check yesterday and they said my Abscess is still "communicating" with my bowel. How long do people have these things! They scheduled another Tube Check for 2 weeks from now and I have my first followup with the GI surgeon 1 week after that.

What are the chances of small holes (guys said 2mm hole) in the bowel can heal and close off the abscess from the inside? Has that ever happened to anyone? Or is it a guarantee that I will have to have surgery?

Hey Kenny, sorry to hear you're having these troubles. Is there a fistula associated with the abscess?

Look to Kenny's signature and you will find the answer. Drain in July, Surgery in October. Well that was the ultimate outcome anyway.

Sorry 21years I wanted to add to my previous post but the page wouldn't load and then I had to go out......anyway......

IIRC, but don't hold me to it!, Kenny's problem was the same as Matt's and his journey was pretty similar too. Ileal perforation - fistula - abscess - surgery. I don't know what his drainage was over the ensuing weeks but his drain also remained insitu until surgery.
