Hiya, just looking for someone who's maybe had a similar situation.. :(

A year ago I became ill and was hospitalised, diarrhoea etc. I was told it was a virus. However since then I've had constant diarrhoea, stomach pain etc.

These are my symptoms - bloody, mucous diarrhoea, stomach pain, especially after eating around my belly button (cramps pain), i get a sense of urgency when it comes to bm, and i often feel like i'm unfinished, a lot of trapped wind and I'm constantly tired.

This has become increasingly worse and I've had numerous visits to the doctor. As I'm 17, my doctor worried it could be IBD and i was referred for a colonscopy. However due to agonising pain, I was hospitalised for a week. My consultant was sure it was Crohns as I have most symptoms and I also have psoriasis, which apparently links well with crohns as it is also an autoimmune disease.

i had blood tests and a colonscopy done. However, my colonoscopy was normal. I thought this was good news but my consultant has told me that my blood work shows i have chronic inflammation

My question is, could it still be Crohns even though my colonscopy was clear but my bloods show inflammation?

Thanks for reading x

Also my consultant said he wanted to blindly start me on medication due to my bloody stool symptoms and blood tests. I'm scheduled for an MRI, what would this test show?

An MRI ( or an MRE) can show areas of thickening or fistulas or sticturing. The MRE is more specilised and involves drinking more contrast material. It can be a very useful tool.

A colonoscopy only views the colon (large intestine). Crohn's can occur in the small intestine and the rest of the digestive tract as well. So yes, it is possible to have a normal colonoscopy and still have Crohn's. If it's a small bowel MRI that you're going to have, this test will provide information about the small bowel, which a colonoscopy doesn't show. There are other possible causes of your symptoms besides Crohn's, but the MRI and other tests commonly used do diagnose Crohn's can also detect and rule out many of them.

My first colonoscopy the Dr. Didn't go to the ileum, just the largecolon. 2nd time they did do they found the ulcers there. Check with your doctor if they did go to ileum.
