Hi Guys,

Great forum and lots of help and advice given on here. I have been reading for few days.

I hope I have posted in the right forum.

Here is my story and sorry if it is bit long.

So my tummy problems started around 2012 which is coincidentally the year I gave up alcohol so I don't know if it was actually helping me.

I started getting really bad bloating, literally after eating anything as I have a pretty clean diet. So I went to Doctor and described my symptoms, he gave me a H. Pylori test which came back positive so put me on 3 antibiotics.

These cleared the H.Pylori but I was suffering from really bad Bowel movements which came more and more painful, almost like glass passing through, it was unbearable pain for the rest of the day.

That went on for a year and the cause was an anal fissure which was probably caused by the antibiotics from H. Pylori. The pain only went away when I was in the sea during holiday so I am guessing salt helped it heal.

So, I still bloated like mad and having the occasional blood in my stool, the blood was fresh blood so the GP said not to worry but constipation was very regular.

So last year I went to the GP again persisting there is a problem in my stomach as bloating never went away except when I am at home and can pass gas. He done a faecal calprotectin stool test. Previously I had endoscopy and it was negative. The test came back with my levels over 1000 and the doctor was worried, even saying the c word is a possibility but because of my age (36) unlikely.

He immediately asked for a colonoscopy and biopsy. So last April 2015 I had the colonoscopy and it came back negative so I was relieved.

However my symptoms stayed, bloating, constipation and regular blood in my stools. Doctor said I get piles a lot as well, not sure if that is an indicator of anything.

He has transferred me to a gastroenterologist 2 weeks ago which I went to. We had a talk, he examined my stomach and said it is possibly an IBS, I was feeling kind of relieved but then he said 'hold on' he said that with calprotectin level of 1000 it is very high and something doesn't add up.

He said an appointment will be made for a CT scam within 2 months and gave me a repeat stool test which I provided that day.

My CT scan came in a week which got me worried that my stool sample must have made it push the 2 months forward and it is to examine my small intestine.

So my questions are, what can I possibly have? If Colonoscopy came back negative, can anything still show up on the scan? Is it possible to have such a high calprotectin levels without anything being wrong?.

Lately I have been very lethargic but my main symptoms are always bloating with regular constipation and blood in stool which is every few weeks. I don't have any tummy pains or diarrhea.

Thank you for any advice.

Since neither an upper endoscopy nor a colonoscopy can see into the entirety of the small bowel a CT scan or MRE can be used to visualize the majority of the small bowel that is left unseen by the scopes. Since Crohn's can affect anywhere from mouth to anus it's is important to get further testing, like CT scan, is symptoms are persisting and tests like fecal calprotectin are showing high results.

There are several things that can cause an elevated FC result. Bowel infection, CD, NSAID use, etc.

Hopefully the CT scan will give you further answers.

Clash,

Thank you for your reply, greatly appreciated.

Yes I have been reading that scan will help with the small intestine analysis.

I just feel like having these symptoms regularly must surely mean something is wrong and I would like to find out so I can get on with my life.
