Hey all

Me again looking for advice from you lovely people :)

Ok so Ive been on the exclusion diet for two weeks which basically consists of rice, rice crispies, soya milk, fruit, vegetables, plain meat and fish. It is very limited but I guess it has to be so they can find out what it is you intolerant too when you start adding things back in. I can honestly say I have felt less sick and tired so I think it has helped but the pains and diarrhea/constipation are still there and if anything at times much worse. The last three days I have barely been able to go at all and all that comes out is either brown water or tiny pellets and today I did the weirdest poo, jet black pellets with yellow diareah it looked like it was multi coloured!!

Im a bit worried about the black? Im not due to contact my consultant until the exclusion diet is completely finished.
Do you think its ok to wait?

xxxxClover xx

hi Clover.... i really would tell someone about this straight away, if you can't get in touch with your consultant, then telephone or visit your gp.

the black colouring could just be a side effect of the restricted diet you're on just now, but it can also be a sign of blood loss somewhere in the digestive system, and this is why you need to be checked out now.

please let us know how you get on.... but please, don't leave it.

I agree. Call your doctor. It may be something simple like an increase of iron in your diet, or like dingbat said... it could be bleeding. It is very hard to tell sometimes.

Have you taken anything like Pepto Bismol? That can cause black poop. If not then I would tell your doctor.

Thanks for your replies, i havent taken anything that would make my poop black. Ive been three times today the first two black and the last one brown but tiny quantities. Ive emailed the dietician so hopefully she will shed some light xxx

Hi clover445,

Making a drastic change in diet can affect every aspect of your bowel movements, but it is always safest to check with a medical practitioner when you are conerened about the changes. Hopefully the dietician will e-mail you back soon.
