I started having mucus and blood in my stool about a month and a half ago. blood test come back perfect, had a colonoscopy that showed mild inflammation in three spots in my colon. multiple biopsy all came back negative and ruled transient colitis. I don't have weight loss I don't have anemia, I don't have diarrhea or constipation, I have about 2 to 3 bm's a day. my only symptom is blood and mucus in stool, small amounts. GI surgeon said it could be crohn's but can't make diagnosis. prescribed flagyl and asacol. I don't know what to think. anybody got any comment

Asacol sounds like a safe start to quell the inflammation. I wouldnt stay on Flagyl too long as it has many side effects.

it's just a seven day course of flagyl and i'm almost done. bleeding seems to be tapering. I just never had anything like this before and i'm kinda freaked out. Not sure to what or why it's happening.

I'm having the same thing now....doctor is saying it's not my Crohn's this time, but an infection. I had blood and stool work this week.

i appreciate your reply, it's so frustrating for him to say that it looks like crohn's and then all the test say it's not and I don't have all the symptoms....i'm 36 and have never had to deal with this before. sucks. I hope you feel better soon.

I'd get a regular GI for a second opinion and most importantly a fallow up, because I dont think surgeons do long term fallow ups. A regular GI shall have more clinic time with you to review your case and explain things to you. If the surgeon took picture during the colonoscopy, the GI will be able to have access to them.

I agree...I would get a second opinion. Asacol is good, I use to take that. Flagyl...UGH!!! I feel your pain! I never like it when I have to take it!

you guys are great. I have anxiety that i'm in therapy for and this is just one thing I didn't need but i'm trying the best I can. I feel like it's not crohn's (that's about as positive as I ever get by the way) but the wishy washy diagnosis (transient colitis) isn't helping my obsessing and anxiety. You guys are troopers and I feel like a complainer but I can't tell you how great it is to have somebody to talk too. Flagyl is made by some sadist, I haven't had a beer since I started it and it makes me feel like turd but after six days my bleeding has mostly stopped. not sure what that means but maybe just some bad bacteria. from what I read the asacol is good but takes longer to start working. Is that right?

I know how you feel. I get anxiety too. But trust me, Crohn's and other diseases feed off of your anxiety! JUST BREATHE!!! Try to make it as easy on yourself as possible! And that's what we are all here for, to help one another! We all have different stories but have been through a lot of the same stuff and we can all relate to each other.
I'm glad your bleeding has mostly stopped. That's a good sign. Yes, Asacol does take a little bit to get into your system and start working properly.

I initially had very fast response to asacol at my diagnosis, but lost response after a few weeks. that treatment was not enough for me.
I also had some partial response to antibiotics at some point, but that treatment was abandoned quickly.
