hey guys still totally confused with this disease seems to throw out new things all the time my latest question for yous all

can loops of your bowel (small bowel in particular ilieum) stick together? any of yous experience this and is due to inflammation i always thaught the outside of your bowel wall was quite slippery but have been informed inflammation can make things sticky?

i have had lapascopic surgery done a few months back which was partially my diagnois and came across adhesions on the internet which can cause things to stick together is this maybe what happen or is this common with crohns disease?

is this dangerous only symptom at moment is some dull pain LRQ and a 'mass' feeling in LRQ will the eventually break apart when inflammation goes away

if anyone has info on this be great :)

"After abdominal surgery the bowel and organs can stick together as part of the healing process, especially after "open" operations to remove the appendix, uterus, or colon." http://www.sbmis.com/gastrointestinal-surgery/bowel-obstruction.cfm

Just in case here's some info on twisted bowel:
"The most commonly manifested symptoms of twisted bowel syndrome are nausea, dizziness, vomiting, swollen stomach (even without eating), stomach pain, bloating, constipation, difficulty in bowel movement and bloody stools." http://www.buzzle.com/articles/twisted-bowel-symptoms-and-causes-of-twisted-bowel-syndrome.html

Sorry I'm not coming up with any good information at the moment. :( I don't think its a common thing for Crohn's as its not a common condition to begin with. I also found a couple of links that mentioned endometriosis being a cause of things fusing together as well. Sorry I haven't slept well in days so my researching skills seem to be limited. I do know that inflammation can cause blockages or partial blockages which can give you a distended bowel but if it were a blockage then you'd probably be vomiting and have all sorts of unwanted symptoms but if it were partial then the symptoms aren't as bad.

Hey Joo,

Matt had that. When he went for surgery they found that two loops of bowel had adhered to each other and that had created an inflammatory mass that then adhered to the abdominal wall.

When the bowel is inflamed it swells causing fluid to leak out, this is what causes the loops to stick together. Crohn's Mom's daughter also had the same problem.

Hey Joo,

I have had adhesions seperated twice and i remember being told that even when the disease is active that it not only swells inwardly but outwardly too.

Along with the adhesions this can cause the bowel to get twisted and entwined, like a bowl of spaghetti !

I wish you well my friend, rest is the best and also if it is a blockage and there is vomiting involved this is because the food must go somewhere so what goes down must come up, unfortunately.

Regards

hey guys thanks for advice,

so can these two loops of sticky bowel seperate? currently tapering off pred and doing ok what i'm asking really is if the pred is reducing my inflammation maybe even putting me into remission will the bowels seperate again when the inflammation is gone?

but if this stickyness is due to adhesions from previous surgery i guess i'm stuck with them right?

can you get a colonscopy when your bowels is like this? i havent got one yet it was cancelled...

It is hard to say Joo. It depends how much inflammation there is, how severe and how long it has been there. If it has been there long enough for adhesions to form then no, they will not separate.

I don't want you to think that you have adhesions joo because I don't know if you do or not. I guess a concern would be that I know you have had ongoing issues with infection, inflammation and an abscess.

Matt had a fistula that caused his inflammatory mass. If you have a fistula in your terminal ileum then surgery is the only option.

Hey Joo,
Yes loop in the bowl can stick together as everyone else has said. Now, I just had a major surgery where they did a complete hystorectomy, and had to clean off my intestines bc they had endometrial crap all over them. During the surgery they found areas of my bowls stuck together and stuck to my other organs, particularly my stomach, my abdominal wall and bladder. The surgery was long 6 hours of cleaning me up from years of disease and illness. Good luck to you
