I'm sorry I have two vents... I don't blame anyone for not reading it, I just needed to write this all down before I go crazy.

Vent 1
I had a colonoscopy back in October, it was clear and I have been diagnosed with IBS. Well I got a lot worse this year. I hurt all the time, Im always tired, sores in my mouth, nausea, durring bad tummy days i'll go at least 6-7 times sometimes with blood, night sweats, and low grade fevers. Well I ended up in the hospital cause I was feeling horrible, they were going to fast track me and get me in for tests the next day, then they found out I had a clear colonoscopy and they cancelled everything. "Oh you just have a bad case of IBS" refused to help me and sent me home....ARE YOU KIDDING ME!!!! I guess once you get the IBS diagnosis you are screwed to ever get any help. AHHH

Vent 2
Me and my hubby share the same GI doctor (He was diagnosed with Crohns last year). Our doctor is going away for a year and told us he would set us up with another doctor at the hospital while he was away. I called yesterday to make an appointment with this new doctor cause I hurt and have lost 6 pounds this week, I'm 5'3 and 92 lbs... not good. I was told he didn't set us up with a new doctor and I would have to go back to my family doctor and ask him to send another refferal to the hospital to get us a new GI... AHHHH it took me and my hubby over a year to get in last time!! This is crazy!!! what the hell are we supposed to do now?

For starters my guess is it wont take as long for the referral to go through the second time around especially if you explain (or your doctor does) the circumstances. Second, bleeding is not common with IBS in fact its not even a symptom of IBS. If its not from a hemorrhoid then its likely a more serious issue. It would be good for you to see another GI. This all may have worked out for the best (well not being turned away from the ER, I think you could have really used all those tests they were going to order).

Try getting the referral. If it really will take a long time to get in to see a new GI doctor, then I would go to the ER again, but at a different hospital. Explain how bad your symptoms are, and how long you're having to wait to see a GI doctor, and they should get you in to do tests, etc.

Also, if your insurance doesn't require a referral, you can try other hospitals or GI clinics to find a GI doctor. Not all GI doctors require a referral from your PCP, some will take you if you simply have your records sent to them.

Thank both of you for the help. Sorry it took me so long to reply, I have been pretty ill this week :( Crabby you were right :) I talked to the GI clinic I was at and they said if my GP puts I was already seeing a doctor there, I might get in faster. I hope I don't end up going back to the ER before then, but I think you're right, next time I will try a different hospital and see if I get better luck. The blood I was having doesn't seem like its from a hem, durring the episodes I was checked for them and they couldn't find a thing. The blood I was having was dark blood clots and lots, nothing on the toilet paper and no pain in my bum, just horrible stomach pains and an elevated white blood cell count.
