Taking Mercaptopurine and Prozac I know my doctors say that I should severely limit if not have any alcohol. I was wondering what your experiences with alcohol have been like? What is it about drinking that creates a problem? If I have a drink or two once a week will I be ok?

What beverages contain the least amount of alcohol so I can go out and enjoy myself without compromising my medications benefits and my own health?

I know a few people who take prozac and they say they can't drink at all while taking it. If they want to have a rare drink they don't take the prozac that day and then resume the following day, though its not recommended. Not much fun is it :(

I cant drink on my meds either but Im okay with it as it doesn't agree with me anyhow. I think the problem with it is it is going through your liver and the damage it can do to your liver. Also, I think some meds and alcohol either increase or lower the effect of the meds (mostly increase). I know some people who are ripped after 1 drink b/c they are drinking on their meds. They pay for it the next day though. They recommend that you don't for good reason. Look up your drug and contraindications.

I have avoided alcohol altogether since I first got sick. I had one "slip" where I had a very small amount of wine (about 1/4 of a glass) and felt horrible the next day. So it's not worth it to me to even try drinking anything alcoholic. I don't even do soda anymore - I stick with water, gatorade, Ensure, and decaf tea.

I'm with Cat. I had a Ceasar a couple of weekends ago and I was hammered!! It was kind of embarrasing. I'm strictly water, apple juice and decaf tea, and if I really want something fizzy, I have perrier or low sodium club soda.

Each medication is different as some require 0 alcohol while others may tolerate some. Personally, I tried to drink as little as possible when on mess as I was worried about the effects of mixing the two.

If your doctor said you should strictly limit instead of fully avoid alcohol, it seems 1 a week would be ok. I think u should limit drinking to what you enjoy as if it is infrequent you should at least enjoy it.

i dont drink , but if i have too much caffine my meds dont seem to work as well as they should. i thought it was just coffee, but then it happen with coke cola as well.
