I am at home allllllll day long, alone for the most part other than the dogs.... I surf, do research, do facebook, play computer games, play console games, read and am finding I am bored as I can be!
Wondering what those other people that stay home all day (if there are any) do to fill their time?

When I was single, I used to spend a lot of time surfing the internet, reading - in nicer weather I'd sunbathe, putter around the yard/garden.....

I also used to spend quite a bit of my evenings at the local watering hole....could always blame running to the bathroom on all the beverage(s) I had! lol.....or just 'wander off' to visit with friends (small town, knew most of the people!).....

if i'm stuck at home because i don't feel well, i tend to spend ages on the laptop, in bed, then have little sleeps when i feel like it...

if i'm at home and feel ok, i do mammoth cleaning jobs like take down all the curtains and wash them, and the windows... and then when i'm knackered later wish i hadn't started.... lol!

Krbsmom: Do you do any crafty-type stuff like crocheting, knitting, sewing, quilting, etc? That might be a fun way to fill some of your free time, it wouldn't be too hard on you if you aren't feeling well, and you'd end up with a finished product too.

When I'm stuck at home and it's lovely weather I'm out in the garden all day, pottering, weeding etc, I love it!
Stuck in all day, or cos I'm ill, I watch telly, DVDs, chat on the phone, Facebook, CF, MSN, or sleep! I used to draw, but cba at the mo.
If I'm feeling well, I clean up and vacuum, boring!

I wish I was crafty ! I just don't have the patience for most crafts. Gardening is fun but its been cold here so can't really get out til probably next mth to start little jobs with that.

This is also the first year Ive been without a kid here, my only child started college this yr. I was planning on going back to work...don't think thats going to happen unless i hit remission, oh how i would love to go back to work!

Hi there, I can emphasize very much. I am home alone for 2 weeks at a time, and this month longer because my husband has to travel out of province. I dont do FB anymore, my opinion too risky and some people get really rude. I am a scrabble champ and solitare...but I have to run my dogs on an ATV, 3 times a day NO matter what the weather, start a fire, keep running up and down the stairs a million times a day (oil is 800 bucks a fill so no thanks, need the exercise anyways) eat breakfast and take meds, and do this every day. I am in rural but have very noisy neighbours, they can hear a mouse fart... (which could be me). My daughter is 45min away in University. After a few days of cabin fever ....go shopping!!!!:ylol2:

I used to be home all the time but haven't been cause I've become a caretaker for my grandpa who's had a stroke. But it is possible to garden in your house by creating a small green house and starting from seed or by buying pre grown plants. Taking care of house plants or herbs can be relaxing. You can keep them near a window with some sunlight and they will be ok.

My boyfriend and I have started our own little hobby I guess where we have a 20 gallon fish tank filled with a couple gold fish we won at the fair and have now filled it with Koi (a Japanese fish). We plan on growing the koi and eventually getting a pond going when we get our own land some day (we hope). So fish could be a good way to go if that interests you. I used to have a salt water aquarium back in the day but my ex got to keep that when I left him. :p

Things have really changed since I became a mommy. When I am stuck at home, I am busy with the two babies. My son who is two now, is into everything! Sometimes I feel that I can't keep up with him.

When I was as childless, I spent a lot of time outdoors if it was nice. I love gardening and used to have very nice flower beds. I have a Beagle named Buster. He was my baby before I had children. I would take him for walks. I loved to make jewelry. Beading used to be a passion. I also loved to scrapbook and of course play on the computer.

Many of those things will have to wait until my kids are more independent. I'm trying to enjoy their baby stages even though it can be exhausting. Right now, they are in bed, so I'm relaxing at my keyboard.

What about learning a new language? Or how to do your own (basic) taxes? If I had to stay home, I would have to do something productive or contributing. What about a veggie garden? Or help save the world one composte heap at a time? God, I'm lucky I can still work, huh? I wouldn't be able to sit still to save my life.

lol - <3 Good luck

I'm hardly ever at home because I work, but I remember recovering from my surgery and being very limited in what I could do physically. It was kind of a drag. Here are a few suggestions:

1. Buy some yoga DVDs. Even if you are not feeling well, there are some very gentle ones that focus on breathing and gentle movements. They can do wonders for your physical and mental well-being.

2. Bake or cook something yummy. I love to cook, so that is how I would spend most of my time.

3. Make Christmas/b-day gifts for people. This comes to mind because I have been wanting to do something for my family with all of our photos and I just can't seem to find the time.

4. Volunteer somewhere (if you can). I volunteer at a local food pantry one Saturday a month and am in charge of planting and tending to a vegetable garden for the pantry during the spring/summer months. It is amazing how many people never have access to fresh, healthy produce. Being able to provide them with fresh food and nutritional education is so rewarding.

I'm a stay at home crohnie, not by choice, and what I do is volunteer for the local CCFA and ostomy chapter and I also babysit 2x a month for MOPS (mothers of preschoolers) in the nursery which I LOVE. I really enjoy giving back to the community as it makes me feel needed. My stupid stroke took a part of me but at least it didn't take my sense of humor and wanting to give back. It took a full year to recover and w/in that time period I made a list of goals for myself and one of them was to regain the strength I lost after being partially paralyzed on my entire right side and get back to working w/the CCFA and ostomy chapter which I truly missed.

When I'm not out donating my time, I am at home w/my fur baby, Ike, taking him for walks or car rides. He absolutely LOVES that. I also scrapbook and make home made cards. If I have a flare, I chill on the couch reading or watching comedy DVDs.

I had to leave college 2 years ago because I became too ill to carry on, I've stuck on my own at home for the entire time since then, still too ill to work or study. But I found LOADS of things to do! You never ever have to go bored at home :)

Some of the things I do to keep occupied are as follows:

I compose music, write songs and produce music on Logic Pro, I also play a variety of musical instruments and sing at home (None of its any good, but it keeps me occupied! I'm lucky I live in The City Of London, My neighbors are at work at the crack of dawn and don't come home until late, by which time I've stopped with the racket! lol) . Have you considered learning a musical instrument? Or learning to read and compose music? It is very relaxing and passes the time so quickly!

I also do fine art, painting and drawing make the time disappear, without you even realizing! Its like magic!

I've recently started to do Paranyama, meditation and Yoga as well, Pranayama and meditation you can do on your own easy and its great. With Yoga I struggle to do it alone, its just hard to do it properly out of the group setting, even with a DVD. So I don't tend to do Yoga at home much, but I do some light stretches everyday, just to keep supple.

I also do photography. You can create really cool, arty sculptures with everyday items and then take really bizarre pictures, then edit them and make them look even more wacky!

I also learn 3 languages, German, French and Spanish. There's loads of websites out there that will help you to start learning languages and you can purchase language CDs from Waterstones, which I found were brilliant in the early days! I love German so much I even went out and bought loads of DVDs, which are in German, its really fun watching them and trying to work out what they are saying! It gives you an incredible sense of pride and achievement when you can actually see the progress you are making with the languages.

I've also written stories and articles about subjects that really fascinate me about History, Astronomy, art, music, nutrition, science etc... anything! It fills your time brilliantly, because you have to do all the research behind the stories and articles as well as write them! Join Hub pages, its fantastic!

I've learned to knit as well, although this is a bit boring when you've done it for an hour or so, so it won't pass HUGE wads of time, but every little helps!

I have to admit, without these activities to keep my mind busy I think I'd have gone insane staying in all these years. I really hope you find some of my suggestions of use and have a lot of fun in the process! :D

Big Hugs and much love

Wow! Heidi! That is an impressive body of work you have going on over there! You really are a multi-media experimenter, aren't you!

Good for you for using your time productively!

PS I can work from home so if I ever find myself "stuck" at home for a long period of time, unfortunately, I can't get away from the office! Luckily I am sleeping with the boss (my hubber) so I have my perks!

Yes I do loads, to be honest I go out of my head when I'm bored, I think its an anxiety thing, always have to be busy!

Working from home has it advantages and disadvantages I think, a mate of mine lives above his office. I really don't know how he ever switches off! Then again, he never has to face London rush hour, and just walks downstairs to work! :) I'm guessing its similar for you, isn't it?

I bet its lovely always having your hubby there though! :)

Take care hun
