Hi all.

so i went to my GI for a check up yesterday, and after a month of raised 6-mp doses, we found out that it had gone the wrong way, and my therapuetic dose for killing my white blood cells was was nonexistent, but it was having a hayday going after my liver, so that was not a good thing.

My doctor and i are discussing currently taking Allopurinol (a gout medication) along with 6-mp, but not sure. he thinks i might be able to be kept steady with just remicade in the meantime.

With the Allopurinol, i would start out with that, and only half a tablet of 6-mp (i am currently on 2.5 pills) and it scares me that it could be so harmful to my body with that medication.

has anyone else ever used this medication for crohns, or even heard of it? i had to google the phonetic spelling of it when i got home to even see what it really was. im tired of being a guinea pig, and trying all these new combo's of drugs.

When i was told i could keep on remicade only, i said "but im having horrible cramps and 7-9 watery, bloody stools a day" and he goes "well, that may just be as well as we can make you, youve been like this for 8 years now, not getting better with anything" and that scared me..

but i would like any input on this med, because it is an option in the future, if i relapse on the remicade.

Can't help with input, sorry, but that sounds like the doc giving up on your case, and that'd scare anyone..."as well as we can make you" ???

WTF?

You should have told him "no, just as well as you're capable of making me, lets see what someone who's not inept can do for me..."

Kev and Bergy will probably go with the LDN recommendations, no? They sound like where I'd go next if my Remicade and if a trial of Humira didn't work....

Wellllll, considering your 'locale', I don't know if suggesting getting another GI is even feasible... But I wouldn't jump to recommend LDN either. Remicade is soooo tricky... Going off it, then getting back on it is so unpredictable. But, if you ARE forced to go off it, then you may want to investigate LDN. Again, the GI is probably going to go with Humira... and may NOT offer to trial the LDN. I would suggest (since you have limited or no alternatives as far as GI's go) you don't burn your bridges with your GI.. worst case, the humira doesn't work, and LDN becomes a last resort. I've had good results, but it isn't the only game in town. Hope whatever your decision is that it works out OK

I was just put on allopurinol a few days ago because I was haing the same liver issues with 6MP. The side effects are so much more tolerable.

I'll keep you posted.
