Friends,

I am male aged 44.

I had prior history of Anal fissure (5-6 years back) and hernia surgery (2 years back).

I was diagnosed with Piles grade 2 and was getting treated for last 4-6 months.

I had terrible tail bone pain for couple of weeks back and I consulted the surgeon. I also had pain in other parts of my body (calf muscle, thigh muscle ...etc...). Ultrasound showed fistuluous track with internal opening around 6'o clock position in the lower half of anal canal. Collection in intersphincteric space was measuring about 1.8 cms.

I was adviced to take pain killer and Orni-O for 7 days. Pain has subsidied. Can the members here share their experience related to My following questions:

1. Can fistula be cured with Antibiotics itself? OR Do I need surgery?

2. Did any of you experienced body pain with Fistula?

3. During this morning bowl movement, I saw blood discharge with foul smell. I think this might be puss coming out!!! Is this the sign of fisula getting fixed?

4. Any other comments/suggestions?

Thanks for the help

Fistulas suck. Hope you get things cleared up soon.

1. Yes. I had a fistula at my stoma site. Adjusted meds, and within a year it healed and has not broke through again.

2. I have Crohn's Arthritis, so joint pain directly connected to disease. I have had muscle pains, but it was determined to be Fybromyalga. Basically treated the same as Crohn's. Your tail bone pain is probably due to the Crohn's and inflammation.

3. When I had a rectum, red blood normally indicated a fistula was breaking through. They can last for long periods of time and as you know are very painful. As for the puss, or slimy film, you might want to talk to your doctor.

4. Try a low fiber diet, no nuts, seeds, corn, peas, broccoli, etc. Try to get lots of rest. No drinking or smoking, but you probably already know this.

Hope things get turn around for you soon. You should get some good info from the members of this forum.

Peace and love.

Thanks for the reply.

My Doctor says, as long as there is no pain and I address constipation, no need to worry. I have pain on and off. Constipating severely. Even after doing things as drinking lot of water.

I am confused, Are Crohns, Fistula, IBD same or different problems? I read a lot on Internet and still do not have an answer. Also, have you folks noticed any relation to stress? When ever I have to do lot of thinking, discussions, customer travel, I encounter pain next day.

Thanks for reply.

Hi Sunder,

IBD is an umbrella term for a number of inflammatory bowel diseases such as Crohn's and Ulcerative colitis. People that have Crohn's are susceptible to developing fistulas.

Stress can compromise the immune system and this can have a knock on effect on your illness.

You initial question about fistulas. My appendix to bladder fistula had to operated on. I think it's quite common for an operation to be needed to clear them up successfully though not always necessary.

This is the update. I went to another Surgeon.

I got severe pain in anal area. When I looked in the mirror, it looked like Hemmorids.

When the Doctor did finger test, popped Hemmorids went back inside, what a relief it was.

. He said, I must go for Fistulectomy. Meanwhile, he has pescribed Augmentatin for treating abscess with pain killer. He also kind of scared me that, I must undergo Fistulectomy else the track can become wider and area larger.

If Augmentatin removes the pain, I want to observe for few weeks and of there is no pain OR discomfort - I am thinking of not undergoing Fistulectomy. I request members opinion here whether this is adviceable? Thanks again for the support.

If the specialist has advised Fistulectomy then it's probably a safe bet to accept that it's needed. It would be unwise for anyone here to second guess that advice.

It you are in doubt, get a second opinion from a medical professional.
