Anal Fissure, when to go back to the doc

I am new to Crohn's, probably had it for a while but was diagnosed 6 months ago. I have had a fissure for about 2 weeks, it comes and goes. I have been putting ointment on it. It's getting increasingly painful and more blood came out today than I have seen before. Maybe I am answering my own question but usually these heal within a week. I have been stressed out due to other health problems. I keep thinking it will go away. I am sure if i make an appointment it will be healed by then.

Welcome to the forum! Did your GI examine you to confirm that it is indeed an anal fissure causing the pain and bleeding? Which ointment did they prescribe?

When I had an anal fissure, I used nitroglycerin ointment for a couple of months along with sitz baths, and together they helped the pain a lot and it did eventually heal. I was also very constipated at the time so relieving the constipation also helped a lot.

Are you having any issues with your bowel movements at the moment that might be exacerbating the fissure?

If you haven't seen a doctor about the pain and bleeding then I would definitely do that. Even if you feel like it has healed there may still be something useful for the doctor to see on an exam and they may be able to help you prevent recurrence.

Thanks for responding. I haven't mentioned this to my Dr. When he asked about blood in stool before I said no. And then on my ride home, I realize I should mention the blood ON the stool. This is all new. I have only met with him 3 times and 1 of those was prior to the diagnosis.

I am applying Aquaphor to help it. It is doing better, the pain has subsided and so has the blood. The urgent diarrhea is the likely cause. I am going to make an appointment.

I was doing good for a couple weeks. Looks like we might need to step up the medication. Clearly the steroids and Lialda combo are not doing the job I thought they were.
