I know there are a few people here with this condition, and I am thinking I may have a bit of it myself. Some of my neck vertebrae are locked together, and it could be occupational damage or AS, or both.

Can someone give me some symptoms of this condition? I have an alternative method of treating it, but I am looking for reasons to rule it in or out. I may get an X-Ray to see, but I do not like radiation exposure unless it is needed.

Thank you.

Dan

Hey Dan, the only one I can remember that has it is GJG from Alberta. Regular xrays are not near as bad, but CT Scans are the ones to avoid. I should be glowing by now.

I suspect I have it, but they wanted me to come in for more testing because the cat scan they did wasn't useful for some reason and they wanted to do it again, but I couldn't really afford it the first time so I didn't go back. I been just ignoring the pain for the most part, but I may have to go get another test in the new year. Been having some major aches in my hips lately too.

I really have no major problems either, and I am not a young man anymore.

Just some minor aches and pains, that could just as well be age related. It is hard to tell when you have had the disease all of your life. I know younger people than me that have far greater joint related problems.

I liketo nip these things before they become a problem, so that is why I was inquiring.

I will treat for it anyway, since there is no real reason not to. Maybe that will give me my answer.

Just trying to cover all bases.

I was suspected of AS by both my GP and GI upon physical examination due to my posture. A subsequent X-Ray confirmed significant spinal fusion of vertibrae and degradation of the sacroiliac joints. A blood test showed positive for the HLA B27 type white blood cell. It is genetic in nature.

I believe I developed AS in my mid-20s (concurrent with Crohn's). At the time it was diagnosed as sciatica. I was prescribed muscle relaxants and painkillers, which I eventually discontinued.

I somehow managed the pain for many years, until a Crohn's flareup brought back the severe symptoms.

If anyone young is reading this and has AS symptoms -- please get treatment and continue with it. I'm paying the price now for years of neglect.

An excellent resource for AS sufferers is www.kickas.org

I gather that there is a significant amount of pain involved, and limited spine movement. Since I did not have much pain with my former Crohn's flares, I wonder if I do not feel pain as most people do. No brain, no pain.

I would have to guess I do not have it, from your description, other than my neck, which gives me trouble.

Most of that problem is likely from driving fork lifts backwards for years, and the wear and tear on the disks. I often had the feeling of sand in between my neck vertebrae. I could actually feel the gritty sensation when I would turn my head.

I do not do that anymore, and it has healed up some, but I do not think it will ever be 100%

Thanks for the input.

Dan

There seems to be a link between Crohn's and AS, and it seems to be linked to a bacteria. I have posted some threads on this before.

A possible link between Crohn’s disease and ankylosing spondylitis via Klebsiella infections

Here are also some studies linking CD and AS

Thanks Mazen.

I can target specific Pathogens with the alternative treatment method I am using.

I am going to try target the bacteria and see if anything comes of it.

If I get any reactions, or do not, I will report.
