Just wondering if this has happened to anyone. I am on the zpak and have had horrible lower abdominal cramps.

Well antibiotics can cause havic on your gut. Antibiotics rid the gut of most good and back bacteria....which could cause an imbalance in the bacteria and digestive enzymes. Ive always been warned before I went on meds that I could flare or have a bad gut reaction. Good luck to you!

the most common side effects of the z pack are gastrointestinal (cramps, pain, diarrhea, nausea, vomiting) so hopefully you're just having side effects and not a flare!

I don't know if it's the reason I started my flare 6 months ago, but I broke my leg and dislocated my ankle. My ankle was a compound and with the open wound I was on antibiotic for 6 weeks. I have had Crohn's since my 20's, 30 years, and I have never had a flare like the one I am currently getting over. So, I don't think the doctor would say the antibiotic caused it, but I do. I did a lot of reading and I did read that it is possible.
I hope this is not the case for you. Good luck and I hope your symptoms disappear, when you are done with your meds.

:goodluck:

Just wondering if this has happened to anyone. I am on the zpak and have had horrible lower abdominal cramps.

I have a different presentation of Crohn's than most (only 3 severe GI hemorrhages) but my 2nd hemorrhage began about 6 hours after taking Bactrim for an infection my elbow. I am convinced it was related as I had gone months with no problems.

I always follow and sometimes coordinate a round of probiotics when I am on antibiotics to balance out the good bacteria. I find it helps a lot with gut pain.

I agree. Lots of probiotic. Take them right in the middle of you ABX doses, and continue taking them for a couple weeks afterward.

My only really bad flare so far was due to antibiotics, I'm sure. Even my doctor acknowledged that they were the likely cause.

Hi mary, dont kbow if you are ok now, a few months have passed, i was on antibiotics for over 1 month for fistulas around my stoma, they can cause a lot of problems in the long run, then i switched to a herbal substitute called Echinacea, i am only one week into it but it seems to be working just fine, and you can take it every day with the piece of mind that no adverse side effects are harming your body, hope this helps.

Ouch stomach cramps and D day 2 of Zpack for sinus infection. Been in remission since may and off my crohns meds for 6 weeks. This will be a good test to see how I hold up. Hopefully passing side effects of the antibiotics and will be back to normal once done. I'm taking probiotics.

agree with others about probiotics if you are on antibiotics, it diminishes chance of dysbiosis, spread of AIEC, c difficile, toxic megacolon etc

I have no idea why some doctors don't prescribe probiotics for people on antibiotics, they regard the gut flora as unimportant, never bothered to read since graduating etc
