I was recently put on Flagyl (750 mg/day) after having minor surgery. I am supposed to take if for 30 days and was wondering if any women taking it had any problems with yeast infections or any other side effects. I am not allergic but have sensitivies to some antibiotics and want to be prepared just incase.

I was on Flagyl but for only 2 weeks. I didn't have any trouble. But I do know it's wise for women who take an antibiotic to also eat yogurt to help stop yeast infections.

I was on Flagyl this summer. It was a love/hate relationship. When I first started taking it, I had to fight off some terrible nausea. It made me really sick. After I completed the course of antibiotics, I felt great for a long time.

I got oral thrush with Flagyl (metronidazole) and a horrible metallic taste in my mouth.
But my GP gave me some anti fungal lozenges and it cleared up.

I had the nausea, and yeast problems...but I'm not sure if the yeast came from the Flagyl or the Cipro that I had to take with it.

I was on for a month and no yeast problems, but ditto the horrible taste in my mouth and nausea.

Good luck!

I've been on Flagyl for the past month, and numerous times in the past few years, and I had the nausea most people have mentioned and also yeast issues (like Cindy, I'm also on Cipro so I'm not sure if that messes with it too?). I take a daily probiotic and try to eat one or two cups of greek yogurt everyday. It really seems to keep the yeast under control because if I go a day without the probiotic and yogurt, I wake up with the white junk on my tongue.

Thanks I will look into a probiotic just to be safe. I had the metal taste in my mouth the first couple of days but it seems to have gone away or I am just used to it already.

Thanks for the responses...so glad I found this forum.

I am on a combination of Flagyl and another antibiotic right now. I have been worried about yeast infections, as I tend to get them really easily anyway.
So far, nothing, and I am almost done the course.
I'm kind of a pro with yeast infections now, both oral and vaginal, so I have an arsenal of supplies in case it happens. Gentian violet really kicks it in the teeth, but it stains everything it touches a bright purple. Garlic also helps if you can eat it (or insert it...).
Yogurt is great, but it has to be active bacterial culture yogurt. Most of the low fat stuff isn't...

I have had flagyl in the past and am currently taking both flagyl and cipro. I have had both oral thrush and yeast infections. My gyno will normally write a script for fluconazole for my yeast infection.

Good luck hope you feel better soon!

update...so I have been on flagyl now for 2 weeks and discoverd I have oral thrush a few days ago. Pharmacist recommended the probiotic Align. Hopefully it will work. I have never had oral thrush before and I hope I never have it again, YUCK!!! I had nausea also but I learned if I take Flagyl with food and or milk I dont get sick. Cant wait to finish the month and be done with this.
thanks for everyone who has responded :) Hope you are all feeling good

I have been on flagyl and cipro for a month now. I also take florastor probiotics along with it to counter any negatives of the heavy antiobiotics in my system. Haven't had a problem.
