Hi All,
I'm a healthy(somewhat) active person and when I'm feeling (somewhat) normal, I eat a lot of veggies, healthy meat, yogurt, fruit, cereal, etc. I have just realized that when my guts are getting cranky, all I want is junk! Sweet bread, like donuts and that kind of stuff. When I feel like that if I can't have some ridiculous sweet bready thing, I don't have an appetite at all. Anyone else experience this? Or is it maybe in my head???

I get like this after a flare. But the thing I crave is Baby Dill Pickles! I can't really eat donuts at all, they make me sick....

Some say excessive yeast causes cravings for sugar and carbs, since that is what it feeds on.

I do not know if it is true, but fungus such as Candida is always present to one degree or another, and possibly plays a role in this disease.

One thing for certain, is that excessive sugar and carbs is not part of a healthy diet.

Actually, breads and surgary foods are the only thing I can handle eating while I'm flaring. Anything else goes right through me.

I thought I was the only one!!!! I am pretty healthy and like a lot of you have done a lot in the name of health (hello chickEn feet bone broth!) Before I had My first flare I was eating major salads and supplemented everything (quinoa for rice, spag squash for pasta). Now all I want is sugar carbs, rice and comfort food!!

I have often speculated that my metabolism speeds up when I am flaring, I wonder if the sugar craving is just because we want more calories quickly

I feel that it might be that we are absorbing less vs the metabolism actually increasing. But jmc that is an interesting idea of easy calories, ive never thought of that.

Yes, I found gluten free chocolate chip biscuits that suit me very well and I'm finding myself craving them even though my system is a bit fragile these past few days. I find if I just have one at a time it doesn't give me much symptoms and gives me a much needed chocolate/psychological boost!

Same here. I always feel like a complete dipsh** for wanting bad food. In my case I go for what is easy to prepare since I am exhausted during a flare.

I'm a vegetarian, and during a flare I live on bread and simple carbohydrates. Some peeled potatoes and rice. They're easy to digest and leave little residue, so your intestines don't have to work as hard. Did you know that if you don't eat any carbohydrates at all, your body will make some out of protein.

My first thought was that your body is desiring low fiber easy to digest foods. I know I stick to these unhealthier varieties because I try to follow a low fiber diet. Many did mention the bacteria theory and that's interesting and quite possible.

I saw my GI this morning, she said that steroids like entocourt and pred can cause an urge for sweets and carbs.
