Our insurance assistance for our son who has Crohns and is on Remicade.. is ending. We are at a crossroads... find a way to afford the treatments or search for a different, and preferably natural route.

Anyone who's gone off of Remicade... what treatments/supplements/protocols do you use and are doing just as well.

I'm so scared.. scared of being on the remicade ..scared of going off of it because of how very , very sick he was before. Wonder if natural tnf blockers would work as well??

I think Gianni was on remicade and is doing well with juicing and diet.
I have no experience with remicade, but I was advised to start it (and azathioprine) two years ago when I was first diagnosed. I was inspired by the book "inflammatory bowel disease" by a UK doctor, Professor John Hunter, who uses diet as his first line of defence against crohn's. A few people on the forum have had complete success with his methods and are completely drug free. I haven't had such good luck, but I am well maintained only on asacol plus diet. I really recommend his book and methods to anyone wanting to try a more natural route. Best of luck to your son.

Going off Remicade

Hello,
I begun the same quest 5 months ago and I am proudly reducing remicade. I am using a dieting method with supplements and I am trying to make changes to my life that would keep me happy (A great great great great factor that people ridiculously keep ignoring!!). The results are unexpectably good.

An organized diet with supplements will surely help but keep in mind that you will also have to concetrate on whatever creates negative fealings on your son and fix it.. Even classic doctors agree that anxiety is a factor of Crohn's disease. Find an expert about food and diseases to help you with the diet and the supplements. Also keep in mind that you will need a GI doctor to monitor your progress, so if you cannot convince your GI for these changes you should find another one.

Some simple advices about fondamental habits:
1) MAKE HIM FEEL RESPONSIBLE
He needs to understand that this is something that he
will probably have to take care of for the rest of his life.
2) OGANIZE HIS EATING HOURS
Breakfast - Lunch - Dinner
Less quantity of food in every step of that order of meals.
Healthy snacks are allowed between meals to keep him going
3) HEALTHY FOOD
Guess what, food comes through our bowel:tongue:. So whatever comes
through shapes it.
Do not let him eat cheetos and candy and jelly beans and etc..
He should eat more vegetables and fruits (note that every crohn is not the
same, so you should not copy any diet, but listen to
general advices and shape his diet when you see how his bowel reacts)
4) GET EVERYPONE THAT MAKES HIM ANXIOUS OR SAD OFF HIS HEAD
Be carefull not to spoil him. Remember being strict and being cruel is two
different things and kids know the difference. Strictness and love is love,
cruelty and love is cruelty.
5) TOILET TIME
He should take care of his habits in there. He must understand that there
is no rush about it. I've come to know that I have involved an unsusual
habit in there. Every time i was going to the restroom I was rushing
myself out as if I was afraid of the place and I didn't let my bowel do its
job relaxed as it should. (I am still fixing that rushness :ybatty:)

+1) if you decide so, do not cut of remicade ubruptly but lower it in every dosage or gradually increase the period between 2 dosages

+2) This is just the beginning. A lot of research and everyday care is needed
and he will be fine. A drug is not the answer. Take control of your son's health and help him learn that he should take care of himself. Something that we forget along the way..

You may ask her. She is open to questions.

I wish you the best and I will be happy to see a post with your progress sometime.
