Anyone on Prilosec?

My doc just prescribed me Prilosec. What exactly is this for? I thought it was only for heartburn, which I haven't been having. Kinda confused as to why he gave it to me. Didn't get to talk to him his office just called and said I had a prescription at the pharmacy to pick up.

Any info would be greatly appreciated. I hate taking meds if they aren't necessary. I haven't started the Prilosec yet.

Thanks Pen that makes more sense to me. I am on Entocort and Azulfidine (Sulfasalazine). Just was confused since I hadn't been having heart burn lately. You think he added the Prilosec because of me starting these new meds? Before I was on Asacol and Rowasa.

Oh wow! I will start taking it today. Didn't realize it was a precautionary thing. I just thought maybe he misunderstood me and thought I had heart burn or something.

I know it's a bit late, but I am on Entocort, Pentasa, and I am taking Prilosec for the exact reasons Pen described! Just wanted to let you know.

I really appreciate all the info Pen and Crohns08. They just don't explain everything sometimes and then I think I know what is going on. Then a few days later I am like "hey wait a minute? or what did he say?"

teeny, I do the same thing. I'm a dummy, cause when I go for my HUSBAND, I take notes, but not when I go for ME!

I take prilosec too, I do have reflux from a hiatal hernia, but also to protect my stomach with some of the pain meds i take.
