Anyone recognise these symptoms?

Hi everyone,

I've only just joined the forum even though I've been diagnosed with UC for a few years. Having read a number of posts I feel very fortunate that my case is mild and controlled well with Colazide. Everyone on here is an inspiration!!

What I'm actually here for now is my Dad. Up until Feb 2010, he was a very healthy and fit 64 year old until he was rushed to hospital with terrible stomach pains and vomiting pretty constantly. He was in hospital for a week and the first 3 days there didn't really seem to be much change, he was waiting for a CT Scan and was in a lot of pain, he wasn't vomiting anymore but retching a lot which was causing him more pain. After the CT scan he got progressively better and was discharged after a week. Problem was they never really worked out what was wrong, there was talk of a twisted stomach originally but the scan showed nothing - they finally settled on a blocked intestine but didn't convince us. He was happy to be better and go on with life.

In May he started feeling ill again, with stomach pains and excessive burping. This has got progressively worse and he doesn't get much sleep as he is constantly burping really deep burps which are painful. He's been back to the doctors and they have done an endoscopy and a Barium X-ray but nothing is showing up. He is now awaiting a colonoscopy as when the doctor examined him his abdomen on the right side was tender to touch.

I just wondered if anyone recognised these symptoms and had any idea what it might be. He is convinced there is something wrong but he doesn't have much problem with the going to the loo - he used to be regular as clockwork and now is quite irregular, but there is no blood/mucus.

Any advice would be gratefully received.
Thanks
Claire

Im wondering if its an acid reflux problem....the deep belching, perhaps a perscription antiacid might do the trick. When I flare I cant stop vomiting...doesnt matter what drs do for me....I just have to ride it out. Normally I have abdominal pain and suffer with burping and farting issues....along with all the other bathroom issues that come with CD. I hope that something gets figured out...its never fun to be in pain.

My problems all started with what I thought was a vomiting bug. I had pain across my pelvic area and lower right stomach. But also began to get bladder infections, and the first GP I saw suspected a grumbling appendix.
Have had an ultrasound and they've identified a problem in a loop of my small bowel.
Hope he gets sorted out soon.

The deep burp/belch especially when lying down sounds like it could be a hiatius hernia (i have one) but this is easily diagnosed with an endoscope, so it can't be that  Of course that again would not explain the lower right pain.
However, the lack of any blood is a good sign and as the docs are due to perform a colonoscope, seems they are still investigating what the cause may be, which again is good.

Hope he gets well soon,

cheers
