Hi,

Just have been prescribed this 2 days ago for sleep problem (I'm on prednisone) and, boy, this is not your average benzo!

The problem is the day following the take, not the night sleep ( ( which is fine): dizziness, lightheadedness almost all day long. as if I was half drunk!

I was worried. Until I learned the extreme half life of flurazepam, like 5 days. It builds up in your system and, after a 4 or 5 days period, your have 6 times the concentration you had the first one! To the point where you some people can reach a toxic level.

Anyway. I was just curious if anyone tried this benzo/hypnotic combo...

Thanks.

I personally would never take any benzodiazepine to help me sleep unless I was having a very major crisis. They are highly addictive..sometimes only needing 5 doses before developing dependence. I would have the alternatives if I really needed something .

I use temazapam occasionally. And again occasionally it leaves me still feeling totaly wiped the following day, the good effects are worth it.

As to addictiveness, people are prescribed it because they are going through a very major crisis... I certainly was originally and I've been able to convince all of my GP's to continue prescribing it since 1995. It's a very useful drug and it only needs common sense to avoid addiction.

Flurazepam is used to maintain sleep, hence its longer half-life to ensure you get a complete nights sleep. Maybe you, Pierreracine, need a shorter acting drug, or one of the synthetic hypnotics like Zopiclone.
