I have been recalled constantly for blood tests as I was told my Liver was struggling. I went again this morning and my GP has given me a print out of the results and said I might want to call my IBD nurse to speak about it. I do have a hospital appointment in a week so not sure whether to wait or not, but they do look high?

Originally my

AST ALT
43 53

but now the last tests are showing (seems to have improved slighlty)

AST ALT
178 176
175 181
121 111

Should I be overly worried about this? I am on Asacol

Hi, Martha!

Is your appointment with your GI or IBD nurse, or someone else?

Since your levels seem to be improving, I wouldn't be overly worried. It seems like whatever you're doing is starting to work. How long have you been on Asacol? Were you given the other test results (with the higher levels) or did you just learn about this?

I got the results when I went to my GP, I had to ask for them as I was getting recalled all the time to do my blood tests. I called the IBD nurse whom then spoke to my consultant. My consultant called the GP as he was not happy with me just getting recalled all the time instead of doing something about it. They believe that using cod liver oil caused the levels to go up and the reason they had improved is that I had stopped taking it 2 weeks before the test. I still cant believe cod liver oil can do this, but they say it can. They are now going to have me in to get more extensive blood tests as well as an ultra scan to check my liver is ok. I really should have called the IBD nurse weeks ago to say my GP was recalling me for blood tests, but I stupidly thought they communicated with each other when problems occur
