I'm taking Azathioprine and I know it says for serious infections to see the doctor...my ears feel like they are blocked and I keep getting an odd whistling noise in them. (I've also been sneezing etc)
It's something (Shame on me) that before starting the mediciation and being diagnosed would ride out putting it down to getting over a cold but i've got a mouth ulcer as well so I'm actually wondering if this is the sort of thing they mean to ring about?

I know doctors are there to help but I always think I'm fussing about nothing (something I need to get over I guess!):duh:

Hi I was on azathioprine for two months.

Gave me a sore throat and blocked ears with a hissing noise.

I reckon the blocked ears were from infection due to compromised immune system courtesy of azathioprine (imuran)

Anyway the blockde ears resolved after about a week.

Currently starting 6 mercaptopurine (6MP) as azathioprine caused pancreatitis

yeh ive had that before. If you can carry on ok then do so for a week, but if its affecting what you do (cant hear things said to you, pain, lasts longer than a week) I'd go to the docs. You can always ring the GI up for advice (thats what they are there for) and if in doubt ask, they will always want to know sooner than later.

Im totally like you (took me a week to go to see the a&e about my wrist..broken in 2 places), but ive realised with crohns it can go from bad to worse very quickly so its always worth a call

How long have you been on aza? you should have periodic blood tests that tells you if you have any infections etc

Also get a pic up for your avatar so we remember you (makes you seem more of the community lol)

I had this as well (just in one ear). felt like when you go on a plane and your ears pop. also had a weird twanging sound occasionally. all stopped when I stopped taking aza so seems like it is the likely cause. I would probably go to the doctors about it (and the ulcer) if neither clears up within 3 weeks or so.
