During some research on the internet b12 kept cropping up - stating if youve had a stomach resection b12 is meant to help. However i have had 2 resections and never had b12 in my life. Is it something that alot of people are on? Does anyone have any information or advice on it?

Kinds regards

I'm on it now, I'm taking GNLD viatmins, it's called "Stress 30" meant for people with lots of stress in their lives, but it has tons of B vitamins, including B12. My urine is fluorescent yellow!

Hi michaela,

The best thing you can do is get your levels tested. And get the actual results, don't just let them tell you, "You're normal" or "You're low normal". Thereafter if you want to share the results with us, we'd be happy to provide further insight.

I have not had a stomach resection, I have had 2 anastamoses though. Even before surgery, my B levels, and D levels were in the toilet.

Just last week, I had my first vitamin B injection. I will be having these shots every three months or so, likely for the rest of my life. Taking supplements was not enough for my body, since I have such poor absorption.

In the same vein, I have to also take large doses of vitamin D (35000 IUx 3xpo weekly) to keep myself from having terrible dizzy spells.

Hello Michaela

I was in a similar situation to you - two resections and no B12. Last time I saw my consultant he mentioned it would be worth having the injections so I went and saw my GP. He checked my last blood test results and said I should book up an appointment with the practice nurse. I didn't realise that to start you off you have what's called a loading dose - 6 injections over the space of two weeks. That was the most difficult bit to organise!

Have just completed my last dose and will now be on jabs every three months. I'm not aware of a dramatic change in the way I feel but, just thinking about it, I do have a bit more energy than before so it was worth doing,

Regards

Nigel

Highlandsrock, when I had my Vitamin B shot, I only received one. I am to have them every 3 months. I am starting to think you all get better treatment across the pond.

Thankyou all, i think ill be asking for levels to be checked and see where i go from there. Seems different for everyone.
