Barrium Question

I recently had a CT scan with barrium and i'm not sure if everything is normal or not.

First off I had to drink half of the barrium they gave me 2hours before my test, and the other half one hour before. I drank the first half and was fine, it didn't bother me at all. But when I drank the second half I was horribly naseaus and really had to fight not to puke it up.

At the CT scan itself they wanted me to drink some more barium, but I told them how ill I felt and they decided not to give me more. After the scans the technitian commented that it was a good thing I didn't drink anymore barium because there was "alot alot of barium still in your stomach" as she put it.

So that was the first thing. Now to be blunt, I have not had any white stool which they told me to expect. I have been having normal movements though. I'd been having a good week before the test though and hadn't had any diarea for the first time in a few weeks, and after the test I was still having normal movements but no white barrium. Even after having diarea yesterday a few times in a row I still haven't seen any white. The test was on friday the 14th, and today is thursday the 20th.

The last thing was that I called my doctor on monday and they told me they had tried to reach me earlier and that I am schedualed for another test tomorrow.

So I have two basic questions:

1. If you've had a ct with barium, was your stool white afterwords like they said it would be?

2. Could there be a problem since the barium wouldn't drain and I have to do more tests right away?

Maybe I'm just over-reacting and I'll just have IBS and if I stop worrying it will all go away!! lol

I've had that test done a few times, but I've always had the white stools.

I just looked on a health website; and they say

Intestinal obstruction. If the barium is not defecated, it can harden in the intestine. White-colored stool is normal for up to three days after barium x-rays. The patient should notify the physician if there is no white stool, or if there are other bowel problems. Intestinal obstruction could lead to potentially fatal barium poisoning.

I don't know about the accuracy of the website, but it might be a good idea to check with your doctor.

http://digestive.health.ivillage.com/digestiveimagingtest/uppergibariumtests6.cfm is the site I was reading.

Yikes about Wiles post. I've had barium many times and have had nausea a few times but I've always had the white stools within a day. The stuff tends to plug me up some
