So I've been on the prednisone merry-go-round for the last few months and I've gained 25 pounds. My whole body just feels weak and I really need to start exercising, but my joints hate every minute of it, even walking is painful. I know I'm still flaring but was wondering if anyone has some suggestions for me?

If you can find an area to swim...That is the least impact you can have on the joints in my opinion. Good exercise also!

swiming is very good!also rebounding not jumping on alittle trampoline but bouncing cleans out ur lyphnodes too..

Yoga, I love Yoga and it can be tailored to suit your specific needs.

I love rambling, and walking in the countryside, and the fresh air is really good for health.

Also Tai chi is meant to be really good, although I've never tried it, and swimming as mentioned above, but the water in the pool is always too cold for me! Just depends on what type of exercise you want to do I guess!

Good luck!

I struggled with prednisone a lot,and found that it taxed my joints terribly. something that really worked for me was to juice an entire watermelon in a blender, slices at a time. then mix that 50/50 with water. I would add lime juice to help the taste. That really made me get rid of the extra water weight and allowed my joints a rest. Personally - I can't stand the taste of watermelon but at that point I was so uncomfortable on the drug and couldn't get off it that I would have eaten anything you told me. try it - if it helps a little you will mentally feel better and the rest will follow.

Swimming is #1 for achy joints. But, I would add spin class or taking a bike out for a ride, too. My understanding is that, like swimming, it is no impact. You can lose lots of calories in a short spin class, too -- and, putting the spin cycle on a relatively high tension setting is allowing me to regain the strength in my legs, too.

As a yoga teacher, I cannot recommend the joint freeing series enough. It was created by Makunda Stiles who founded Yoga Therapy and the man is a genius.

The people who I've taught it to who have stuck with it have experienced amazing results. My dad, who is now 73 was unable to so much as crouch before he started. Now he can comfortably sit cross legged for extended periods of time!

That is fantastic David! I have printed the sheets off, thank you very much! How often do you do these, and do you do sets of each?
