I am currently on Percocet post-op. I am in so much pain even with the pain killer. Is there another that's more effective I can ask my surgeon for?

Sorry to hear this. I was given Tramadol which was good. I had a regular dose three times a day and a booster dose for breakthrough pain.

Another vote for tramadol. Morphine worked well also but I only had it just prior to the op for a perforation and for 2-3 days post op.

Hmmm, I was put on iv morphine post-op but that was giving me tremendous headache and nausea so I requested tylenol and well... I respond well to that as basic as it is. I know clearly that this is not what you are regarding to. They prescribed me a few Dilaudid to go home post-surgery, this compound seems to knock me right when I really need it (back when I had kidney stone). I don't know if you have that under that name in the states though. Anyway, it is hydromorphone. I quickly search, it seems to go under the name of dilaudid, hydromorph-contin.

Here is a table with opiod analgesic with approx equivalent analgesic potency. I have try none of the other so I can't say if the others are that great.

My two were given Endone (Oxycodone) post op and working off a base of regular Panadol it worked well for them.

I hope you find something that works for you ngng. Good luck!

Morphine has been the best for me, except for some of my surgeries I haven't been allowed it because of how it slows down the bowel, which can possibly lead to blockage depending on the surgery. It does make me high and uninhibited though, so I wouldn't want to be on it around anyone who doesn't know what I'm on and that all the embarrassing things I'm saying are due to the morphine. I usually get it for just the first couple of days after surgery, and then move on to codeine. The hospital often gives me paracetamol too (which I think is one of the ingredients in Percocet?), but I don't find that does anything at all.
